nipple removal- candidate for pre pectoral reconstruction?
Hi, trying to wade through all the information thrown at me since I just was diagnosed. My head is spinning. I know I do not want any under the muscle or flap reconstruction. I was told I could have a Goldilocks mastectomy- but I honestly don't think that would work well- only c cup . So I need to schedule my BMX but don't know if this would be an option.. Does the surgeon do this or you need a PS? Clueless

My BS recommended the PS that I used. She knew he did the reconstruction that I wanted. I was able to have everything done in one surgery that was about four hours long. The BS started the BMX on one side. When she was done there, the PS started the recon on that side while the BS moved to the other side.

Saved by grace- I had to have my nipple removed, but I had skin sparing mastectomy. I will be having delayed prepectoral implant reconstruction, so as long as you can find a PS that does that procedure, it shouldn’t matter about the nipple. It will not be your breast surgeon though, but it can be done during the same surgery

Thanks so much !! I appreciate the advice! I called the surgeons nurse today and asked about the pre pectoral and wanted to know if I was a candidate. She talked to the doc and she said yes. However, the nurse told me that prepectoral implants were for old ladies very old! 🤔😳 hmm what? I said well I want to explore all my options before I make a permanent decision to go flat. So will get in to see a PS.

plenty of us youngish folks with prepectoral implants
-
star - lol- I figured that - ha - did not think implants were categorized by age !! 😂

I am 49 and am getting prepectoral reconstruction in a few weeks. Is that old? My understanding is that the ideal candidate is very active and somewhat lean, but I could be wrong.

49 is young!!! Wow! I will talk to the Plastic surgeon and get real information .

Pre-pec, at least per my PS, is determined by a couple of things: 1) breast skin quality/blood flow in the area--something they cannot determine until you are actually on the table (so you can go in hoping for a pre-pec, but they could decide that you can't handle it); and 2) breast size (a woman with large breasts is probably not a good candidate.) Women over 50 and smokers tend to have more problems. I am a non-smoker, but over 50, and was on the cusp of being too large (around 500ccs volume in each breast pre-surgery) so I had to hold my breath going into surgery. Fortunately, my PS was able to do it pre-pec, and now, less than a week post-exchange, all is well.

I'm 55 and sporting 615 cc implants pre-pectorally. No issues and so much more comfy than sub-pecs were.

I'm 51 and just did BMX direct-to-implants, pre-pec, non-nipple sparing, with 550 CC implants on each side. Very happy!

Thanks!!! So great to hear some positive outcomes! I just found out that I can get into the PS tomorrow! I at least know it is possible to be happy with them .
