I'm 23 years old with 2 kids, about 2 weeks ago i started getting an aching pain in my armpit, i'm currently in school for Massage Therapy so i thought that maybe i over streched, strained some muscles in my chest while giving a massage. The pain never went away, every day it has been getting worse until over the weekend i can barely lift my left arm above my head without it hurting so i had went to see my family physician to see whats going on. She wanted to check my breasts, so she did and found 2 lumps, booked me for a mammogram and U/S for both breasts, told me to take tylenol for pain. She also told me that she wasn't too concerned because she "thinks" they are Fibroadenoma. I'm currently in exam week at school, tylenol is making the pain worse and i'm so extremely depressed, i can't eat, sleep. I'm absolutely terrified to find out the results but worse this waiting game is killing me worse , i go on May 9th and not sure how to deal with this pain until then. I know i'm all over the place but i am absolutely terrified thinking about the worst.

Honestly, the chance of you having breast cancer is extremely rare at your age. I feel like your doctor is right. It is very very likely that it is a cyst or fibroadenoma. Those are extremely common in young women. I have had several fibroadenomas, and a couple of them have caused discomfort. I'm very familiar with the waiting game. Please try not to worry...do anything to distract yourself as much as possible. The waiting is the hardest part, but you can get through it. I'm sorry you have to wait until May 9th..a couple of times I have been able to get my appointment bumped up because they had a cancellation. I have just said that I would like something earlier..can you please call me if you have a cancellation.. or they will tell me to call back in a couple of days and something will usually come open. Keeping you in my thoughts and try not to worry! :)

I agree with kmartin. Your risk of breast cancer at 23 is somewhere around 0.2%, not statistically significant. Breast cancer is exceedingly rare at your age. There are several BENIGN conditions of the breast that affect young women, however, so the lumps need to be checked. I'm very surprised that they going to do a mammogram. They rarely even do mammos under age 30 because younger breasts are so dense it's hard to see anything on the film. Ultrasound is much more useful for young breasts.

Fingers crossed that you get in sooner than May 9. Waiting is so exasperating.
