Remission after IDC
Hello everyone!
I am a two time breast cancer survivor. I just wanted to say a few words about my diagnosis to encourage those who are recently diagnosed or in treatment.
I was diagnosed with Stage 2B in 2007 at age 47. My cancer was grade 3, ER PR positive, Her2 negative. I had extensive vascular and lymphatic involvement plus positive nodes. I had lumpectomy( mistake!) chemo, radiation and Arimidex. Right at 5 year mark, I had recurrance. Mammogram was negative and thankfully I insisted on getting an MRI,which showed the second cancer on the same breast. Grade 3 and this time triple negative. I had bilateral mastectomy, and I had to get another 6 rounds of chemo. I didn't think I would be able to complete it, but I did.
So here I am 10 and a half years later, doing fine and am cancer free despite having scary path reports. The journey has not been been easy, but it was doable and I did it. Hope my post will encourage those who are in a similar situation as I was. Take care and here's to many cancer free years!

Thanks Newly. Your story is an inspiration for the rest of us to never give up. Is there anything you would suggest to prevent a recurrence? From what I've read, it's really just a crap shoot. I'm looking forward to hearing more from you.

Hi Newly, I’m recently diagnosed, so I love reading inspirational stories like yours. I’m interested to know why you thought your lumpectomy was a mistake - I have all this to look forward to

Hi Kanga roo!
My cancer was high grade and as I said vascular and lymphatic involvement was extensive. Despite having aggressive treatment followed by Arimidex, it still came back around the same stop. Giving the charecterists of my tumor that was given. Never know, but I feellike I’d not have gone through it again if I had mastectomy.

Hi Meg 101
I wish I had a good answer for you. I think getting an aggressive treatment, being your own health advocate(had I not insisted on an MRI, my outcome would not have been good), eating right, exercising and keeping STRESS down all help. Since I was ER + I also had oopheroctemy and per my surgeon’s advice, I had Zometa infusions for a year. She was one of the researchers and told me that Zometa may reduce cancer spread in patients like myself and I jumped on it ! Side effects were minima

Boy I needed to read this today. I also had node-positive 2b BC and went with a lumpectomy (mistake), chemo and radiation. I had a and a recurrence a couple months ago that we thought would only require a BMX. Just learned that because of my oncotype score will need to do chemo again - although a different type.
Newly, so glad to hear that you are doing well despite the 2 scary diagnosis
