Hello. I found a lump in my left breast a little over a week ago (on a Friday night). I called my doctor first thing Monday morning and was told to come in that afternoon. She scheduled me for diagnostic Mammo/US which was done on Friday, 4/13 after which I was scheduled for a biopsy on 4/18. Scared and nervous is an understatement right now! I've had mammograms where I had to have US and follow ups in 6 months but they've always been ok after the follow up. I hate to say it but the last time that happened I didn't follow up and that was 2 1/2 years ago and now I find the lump. When my doctor called to check on me Friday afternoon I asked her what the report said she said it shows a 2cm irregular mass. When I asked her how likely it is to be cancer she said unfortunately there's a high likelihood based on the radiology report. I am trying to get a copy of the report as I didn't even think to request a copy on Friday afternoon when she called to check on me. She has already referred me to a Breast specialist who has already reached out to me and the very nice lady there told me the same thing regarding the radiology report and the "code" the radiologist used. She wanted to know when my biopsy was scheduled and when I told her she said go ahead and keep that one because she couldn't get me in any earlier but as soon as I have my results they would get me in to come up with a game plan. I'm probably being overly sensitive but it sounds like to me they've already pretty much decided it is cancer. Can they make a diagnosis from just the Mammo/US? The waiting is killing me!!     The waiting is absolutely the worst part as I recall. It's great that your doctors are moving fast in trying to figure out what's going on and making sure something's in place just in case! And as for the imaging, there are times when it looks to be cancerous versus not, although obviously the only definitive way to tell is by biopsy. On the imaging report, they usually rate it BI-RAD 1 through 6. Usually if it's 4, it's suspicious for cancer. If it's 5, they think it's very likely. So getting that report would be helpful in understanding what your doctors are thinking. Also, even if there is a high chance of cancer, only the biopsy can tell you exactly what it is and what is means. In other cases, there are also lumps that are not cancerous, but still need to be removed. So there may be various reasons they are getting you connected with the breast specialist. Hoping for the best for you!

    Thank you for the response puppiesnalpacas. I am actually picking up a copy of the imaging report this afternoon since it looks like that can help me better understand what the doctor's are concerned about. I'm just ready to get the answers so I can either move on or deal with whatever this is. Being in limbo is about to kill me!!!
