Biopsy tomorrow with a BiRad5, terrified

I had a mammogram and Ultrasound on Monday. Radiologist said BiRad 5 and "highly concerning". Sent images to my Gyno, who immediately referred me to Breast Surgeon.

BS looked at Mammogram and called me in for same day appointment. Met with me with an Oncology Nurse Coordinator. I got all the pre-procedure clinical tests done same day. Everyone is treating me like I already have a cancer diagnosis.

I have biopsy scheduled for tomorrow morning and a Breast MRI is to be scheduled soon.

I am terrified. This is all so fast. Every professional who sees my ultrasound expedites every test and gets me in immediately.

I am scared of the biopsy procedure itself, and of course even more by how worried all my doctors already are.

Don't expect to sleep much tonight. So scared. I am 52 years old and have a 17 year old son who's father (my ex) died only a year and a half ago.

Donna, I am sorry. I was 53 at my diagnosis. My biopsy wasn't that painful but I was very bruised.

I know it doesn't look hopeful, but it's not cancer until they prove it with a biopsy. There have been a few here who got a benign diagnosis after being BIRADs5. Not a lot, but there have been some.

I hope the biopsy goes well tomorrow. Mine wasn't nearly as bad as i imagined. Not fun, but not particularly painful. They gave me a lot of numbing medicine.

Let us know how it goes. Fingers crossed for you.

    Hi Donna,

So sorry that your concerns brought you hear but given the circumstances, you are in the right place for love and support from a phenomenal group of women. Birads 5 does sound scary but a cancer diagnosis must be proved by pathology. Even if cancer is confirmed, you can get through it. I am 51 and about to be treated for a second BC after 21 years. Waiting for results is nerve wrecking but once you find out what’s going on, it does get better. Hang in there and please come back and let us know how things turn out. Hugs

Hi, I’m also a birads5. It is good that they are moving quickly. I had my ultrasound guided biopsy leftyesterday 4/9/18. Tomorrow will be nerve wrecking for me, b/c it’s 2-3 days for pathology results. If this means anything, the biopsy did not hurt. Under ultrasound guidance. It’s a spiculated mass. I hope things work out well for you. I’m trying not to worry. These days there is so much more that can be done. I’m in my mid 50s also. They also plan on an MRI for me as well. Stay on top of things is important.

oh I second that, you do not have cancer until the doctor tells you have it from biopsy results.

I third that...it’s not done until the results are in. Read the following recent thread:

Sending positives to you tomorrow! Let us know how you do

Biopsy went OK, all things considered.

3 separate locations, so it took a while. Was uncomfortable and exhausting, but not unbearable.

Very sore now, especially the one close to the armpit.

Now we wait. 2 - 4 business days. So maybe hear Friday, maybe not til Monday.

hey Donna - glad the biopsy is over, sorry it’s so uncomfortable! I assume you’re allowed pain meds, hope they help. Ah yes, the waiting....try to stay busy, we’re here to see you through it, so post if it’s overwhelming. I’m hoping you don’t have to wait over the weekend so I’ll keep my fingers you get good results on Friday. Gentle hugs

Donna I’m so sorry it’s gone this way for you. You’ve had so much on your plate already. I hope you have a support system by way of family and friends. You do have this whole community supporting you. My son was 17 when I was diagnosed, it was so hard telling him, but I promised him that I would fight it with all I had and together we would come out the other side. I know it’s so very overwhelming right now, but you can and will do this, for you and your boy. Make good use of this community, again, we’re all here for you. Reach out any time! Big supportive hugs
