One year visit
hello everyone!
So my ro scheduled me for a one year follow up and it’s tomorrow. What will he do at this appointment? Just look at condition of breast from radiation? I really don’t want to go. I don’t want to walk back into that cancer center and be reminded of those radiation treatments. I love my doctor but just don’t want to do it. I know I’m being silly but the first yearly visits are hard

Yes it’s just a follow up, part of protocol. It’s usually more talk than examination, though he will examine it.
I get the same way at every medical, and like you find it’s discomforting to go back to the treatment centres. The sights and smells still bother me. It does get easier as time goes by, the first is the hardest. Your anxiety is very common and your not alone, and definitely not silly! I’m hoping it goes smoothly for you, you’re going to do just fine. Let us know how it goes please! Hugs

hi Egads007
Thanks for the reply and hugs! I needed them tonight. We love people from Toronto in Boston. Good night my friend hugs to you.

My RO does a breast exam (both sides) at my visits which are every six months. It's a really quick visit.
-
Mamasha- I haven’t been to Boston yet but plan on it! Good to know us Torontonians are welcomed!
)
How did you do at your appointment?
-
you’ve probably already been to the appointment but for what it’s worth I rebelled and don’t go to every doctor that “protocol” says I should. Each visit to a surgeon, an oncologist or radiation oncologist is a specialist co-pay for me not to mention several hours out of the office. The last time I saw my breast surgeon wash 3 months post mastectomy (except for the OR when he removed my portacath). I last saw my radiation oncologist 3 months after my last radiation treatment. I see my medical oncologist quarterly and after my next appointment she said it would switch to semi-annual. Once I’m satisfied with reconstruction I’ll stop seeing my plastic surgeon too.
Between the oncologist and my PCP I feel that I have the medical coverage I need.

hi everyone,
So I chickened out. I wasn’t there mentally so reschedule that morning to May 3rd. I guess I was drained from last week I had a gyn and my pc physical. Gyn said my stomach feels hard and a possibility of a hernia and referred me to pc doc. She felt it andsaid she’ll put in for a ct scan based on my history so that’s why I couldn’t take another doc this week. I’m waiting for insurance approval and I guess I’ll have ct scan next week. I would love for once to go to doctors and they say see you next year.
In sept I went for eye exam because I knew I need some sort of reading prescription glasses I’ve never been. Ophthalmologist says I have anatomical acute angle closure geez....wtf laser surgery to avoid issues later. Never easy is it?
So now I’m kinda getting freaked out. Hopefully it’s nothing.

Thanks for the update. One step at a time and in your good time. You're not a chicken, you rescheduled. A chicken wouldn't have.
Oh I know, the health issues keep rolling in. After I finished treatment, like you, I was saying 'does this end?? Enough already, I've done my share!! Can I have at least 1 month without a new worry?!?!?' I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis, uterine fibroids, had 2 hystosonograms (ouch!), 3 colonoscopies (yikes!), 1 D&C (oh joy!), 3 repeat ultrasounds on the breast. I was left thinking I must have been Ghengis Khan in a past life! I didn't get 'see ya next year' until the beginning of my 3rd year out. My 4th mammo resulted in a call back. It was benign, but when the call came I screamed and blubbered like a 2 year old all day. It seems so unfair! Today I can roll with most of this stuff pretty well, but it took time, as it will for you. I do admit though, when it comes to my breasts the anxiety is pretty up there.
I'm hoping it's nothing for you too, lots of positive vibes your way......and once again, keep us posted!
