Myriad genetic tests - confusing result

A family member recently got her first mammogram at age 40 and was provided genetic testing. Although the 3 specific mutations - BRCA1 and 2 and one other - were negative, and she has no first-degree family history of breast cancer and no previous personal history, she received a lifetime bc risk of 46.2% (2.9% 5-year risk). I can't find much science about the validity of these rather disturbing results (beyond an abstract on the Myriad website by Myriad scientists), and we're not sure how much confidence to have in them. If someone who understands the science could chime in, I'd appreciate it.

Why was she provided genetic testing for a first mammogram at 40 in the first place? There must be some risk factors that made them suggest testing. She probably needs to speak to a genetic counselor to understand all the whys. There are also a lot of genes besides BRCA that increase risk
