Complex cystic mass
2 weeks ago I found a large lump in my right breast. A doc appt, mammo and US later, I have a complex cystic mass (predominately solid) that's 5.2 x 4.0 x 2.6cm - BIRADS 4. The radiologist voiced his concern, but said my lymph nodes were clear so there is good news. I have a biopsy tomorrow morning and then the waiting game begins for pathology.

Hi wlo002,
Welcome to an amazing place of support. Sorry that you are here but please know that this is the best place to be under the circumstances. I will say a special prayer for b9 results for you. Please be sure to come back and let us know how things turn out. Hugs

Thanks RhondaJ!
Biopsy went well yesterday. I had built it up in my mind to be a scary experience, but it wasn't bad at all. Honestly, waiting for the results is worse. The radiologist didn't feel there was enough fluid to attempt aspirating so he stuck with core biopsies. I've tried not to google too much because that's just a rabbit hole, but at the same time, I can't seem to find much information on the type of mass I have. Anyone have good info?

Hi there! I also have a complex cyst. My radiologist didn't seem too concerned about it and I'm on a 6 month follow up schedule but I do have the option to the biopsy if I decide to do that. I'm glad to hear the biopsy went well! It is my understanding that very often a complex cyst is just a complex cyst and it is very rare for it to be anything else. But my radiologist like yours suggested that I could biopsy because anytime a cyst isn't completely fluid filled they can't say for sure it is b9. Hope you get the results soon! Keep us posted!

I appreciate the feedback Rachel888, but a complex cystic mass isn't the same as a complex cyst. The radiologist explained to me that a complex cystic mass has different features than a cyst and a significant chance of being malignant - 30 to 60%.

hi wlo002 I'm sorry my feedback was not accurate. I admit even though I was diagnosed with a complex cyst I still don't quite understand why they would consider it a complex cyst vs a complex cystic mass since my radiologist also said mine was predominately solid. Either way I wish you all the best and will be hoping for b9 results for you!

No worries! I don't know a lot about it, either. I work in radiology (as a coder) and read breast reports all the time so the terms are familiar to me, but beyond that, I'm lost. I get my results tomorrow and no matter what the answer is, I think I'll have questions.

I received my results Monday...invasive ductal carcinoma. I'll have lymph node biopsies next week for staging but for now I'm stage 2. Also waiting on my HER 2 status but it looks most likely that I'm triple negative. Things go really fast when they hand you a cancer diagnosis. Yesterday I met with a genetics counselor because I have no family history and I'm only 41 and also with a surgeon. Oncologist comes Thursday and if she agrees with the surgeon, I'll be having chemo before surgery to shrink the mass.

I'm so sorry to hear that! But it sounds like it was caught very early. I'm wishing you the best with your lymph node biopsy. I hope you are able to find the support you need as you go through this process and it sounds like your doctors have a game plan ready for you which is great and hopefully relieves some of the stress. Best wishes and hugs!
