edited April 2018 in Waiting for Test Results

Hello All! I’m a first time poster and I guess I’m just looking for support as I wait for my biopsy results.

I’m 38, an RN and School Nurse, wife, and mom of 2 beautiful girls. I found a lumpy area in my left breast and went for an exam with my Gyno. I had not yet had a mammo but have very dense , fibrous, breasts. He said to be safe go for a diagnostic mammo and ultrasound but expected them to be negative. Well, 2 cysts were seen with a dense area of concern above one of the cysts that the Radiologist strongly suggested be biopsied because it’s “suspicious, and abnormal”. Ended up with a BIRAD of 4a which usually indicates suspicious but a 0-30 percent chance of cancer. Went for an ultrasound guided core biopsy (4 sections) 4 days ago. One cyst was aspirated with bloody fluid (hemmorhagic) and the other was left alone.

When I finally was able to speak with my gyno after the procedure, I asked his opinion on cancer and he said “You are young so your chance of cancer is low but there is a suspicious area and if you told me you didn’t want a biopsy I would have said that I STRONGLY suggest it.”

Feeling nervous as the results are closer to coming. Anyone else with 4a or young etcwant to share a good or bad result of their biopsy? I’m not afraid of negative information I just want to get as much knowledge as I can... that’s keeping me sane haha. Thanks in advance for your posts!!

Alyssa, a 4A is estimated to be 10% or less chance of being cancer

    Hi AlyssaRN4,

I am also an RN, 40 years old, wife and mother of 2 girls, ages 17 and 9. I am waiting to have my biopsy next week, on the 13th, stereotactic core needle biopsy- it will be my first. I also have heterogeneously dense breasts and have coarse heterogenous microcalcifications in my R breast at the 3:00 position, first found in 2016 and now have increased in number. I was previously BIRADS3 but now am 0 since there is further testing needed. I've also discovered a lump right around that area and am having an ultrasound tomorrow. The lump is hard and does not move, and is tender. I realized I've had it for awhile, but didn't know it was a lump as I had attributed the tenderness to its location near my bra underwire- I thought the tenderness was just the damn bra. Stupid me I never did a self exam to check for a lump, at least not a thorough one. Its also right up against my ribcage so I suppose if I felt it I may have thought it was bone. I'm hoping that the fact that it hurts is a good sign, since I've heard most cancers are not painful. In any case, I'm pretty freaked out but trying to stay positive. I've been trying to get as much info as possible so that I am prepared for anything, but it's hard to be prepared when you don't know what's coming. I hope you have negative results, and that you get them soon- waiting is really hard to do.

Thank you so much Bringmesomewine! Yes it’s so hard to wait. Now that it’s long enough since the biopsy hat the results could potentially be ready it’s even more stressful somehow! It’s all I’m thinking about. I’m so sorry to hear you are going through something similar. Sending good vibes your way and hoping for benign results for you!

AlyssaRN4, any results yet? I’m 1 week from getting my biopsy and can’t stand the waiting, I just want to get it done. Praying you’ve gotten benign results!

I know how you feel. I had a mammogram and ultrasound on April 3rd. The radiologist showed me one area of concern but said she is confident it’s benign. They classified it as BIRAD 4a. Since I am low priority I am schedule for core needle biopsy end of the month April 27th. And then follow up every 6 months for 2 years. I am only 34. Little stressful waiting.

I just got the pathology for the lump yesterday and it’s benign!! Fibroadenoma. I’m still waiting to hear the cytology on the cyst but I expect that will be fine. I haven’t talked yet to my Dr about the plan now. Occasionally they still would like you to remove it, otherwise usually 3-6 month follow up testing initially is the norm. Thinking of you Emma wishing you the same outcome Bringmesomewine!

My biopsy results are benign! They thought I had papillary changes and a second pathologist looked and determined its just fibrocystic. Celebrating a victory tonight and praying for everyone still waiting
