Itchy nipple + lump

So about 2 months ago I went in for my regular gyno checkup, I had also JUST found out I was pregnant (3 weeks) when he was doing my breast exam he felt a pea size lump attached to my chest wall. It had no pain. My grandmother got breast right around my age. He sent me to have an ultra sound done.

Which first of all the radiologist was a complete butt. He was telling me how dumb it was to have children so close together (I have a 17 month old) and wouldn't stop about it. Then he couldn't find the lump on the US. And kept trying to make my doctor and me seem stupid. He was awful. My doctor checked over the us and didn't see anything. But now I'm 11 weeks pregnant and the nipple of that breast is so dry and itchy that it's almost painful. It's not all the time just most of the time. It's flaking and no amount of lotion or oils is helping. My other breast is perfectly fine!

Is it possible the us missed something? I know it's possible the itching is pregnancy related but I can't get this nagging feeling out of my head that it's something more. I have an appointment on Wednesday but I just need to know if I should push the issue or if he says it's pregnancy related to let it go.

I have no discharge or dimpling just the tiny lump and extremely itchy nipple.

    I would ask for another opinion and I would request a different facility due to how you were treated.

    I definitely won't be going back to where I had the first one done.


    Who would I go to for a second opinion if my OB decides that it is nothing to worry about?

    I also just noticed while looking over my nipple, it's not convinced completely round anymore. It's a little mishapen.

    Sashleyharmon - If the flaky/itchy nipple persists I would demand a punch biopsy. I was diagnosed with Pagets of the nipple last October after a clean mammogram and ultra sound. A MRI also revealed DCIS that didn't show up on any other testing. A biopsy is the only way to rule out Pagets so if anything it will give you piece of mind. I ended up going to a dermatologist for that. If you haven't tried an over the counter Cortisone cream try that and see if it helps. Otherwise your derm may want you to go that route first.     Great suggestions from the others! We are glad you are going to a different doctor this time around. And indeed, perhaps worth consulting simultaneously with a dermatologist. You mention that your grandmother was diagnosed at your age... have you or any others in your family received any genetic counseling. It would be worth discussing this as well with your doctor (OB, then perhaps a breast surgeon).
