Linda, there are several threads already going on this topic. Just look for them in the search box. The consensus is that you won’t know until you try it how the drug affects you. Some people have side effects so severe that they need to quit, and others have very few. Good luck and I hope that you can tolerate it.

    Hi Linda,

We're sure others will be by shortly to weigh in, but in the meantime, you may want to check out the main Breastcancer.org site's page on Arimidex (anastrozole) for some good information on the benefits of this medicine, common side effects, and more.

In addition, there's a very popular thread here you should introduce yourself on called For Arimidex (anastrozole) users - new, past, and ongoing. There's tons of great information there, and lots of members willing to help!

I took it the first few days my tongue felt fat but that went away. Then slowly over time I got the joint pain and weigh gain and puffy face look. By year 2 I couldn't take the joint pain and switched to exemestane joint pain was less but developed a terrible dry eye syndrome after almost 2 years of that I quit and not on anything. Feel much better now. Also lost puffy face and about 20 pounds.

My sister has taken Anastrozole for about 3 years, with no real SEs. She already had rheumatoid arthritis, so she has considerable joint pain, but the AI hasnt made it any worse.
