Central or full duct excision anyone?

I’m so thankful to find this community! I’m scheduled for wire guide insertion and surgery for Wednesday 14th... I’ve had two MRIs that’s have shown fluid filled duct, multiple “filling defects”/ papillomas. My MRI was tough to read because I have “busy” breasts. Birads score was 4 for the biggest area of concern where I had a clip placed several weeks ago. So I’m worried and scared of what they will find, but hopeful it’s going to be benign condition. Would love to hear how duct excision procedure and recovery was for others.

    Hi Noble13!

    I’m wondering how your procedure went? I’m scheduled for a total duct excision on April 9th, so I’m nervous too.

    Hi Jewel42,

    The procedure went smoothly. My day started with a wire guide insertion, which involved the lidocaine shot, which are totally doable of course but not fun...and then compression in the mammo machine while they guide the wire in...they coiled up the end and taped it to my chest. It took about 45 minutes from start to finish. Then I headed over to the outpatient surgery area and just waited....they gave me an IV, and then just before surgery, they gave me a sedative in the IV, wheeled me into the OR, put a face mask on and told me to think of a beach and the next thing I knew it was over and I was in recovery! I felt fuzzy, a little nauseous but had asked about that prior to the operation, so they gave me some anti-nausea meds in my IV and a patch behind my ear. I think that helped tremendously. I was given crackers and ginger ale and on my way home within an hour and a half. I really felt fine but I do have a couple of suggestions. 1. Wear a button down shirt, and a front zip sports bra or surgery bra...just easier! Also, although you might not be in a lot of pain, take the hydrochodone or oxy to get a good night’s sleep. The next day I was good with nothing or just tylenol. I did have a sore throat from the tube but nothing major. The incision is held with surgical glue and steri strips...and there is bruising, some soreness but truly not bad. I hope my experience matches yours...and I’m happy to answer any specific questions you might have. Best news:. I got my pathology results today and ALL BENIGN!!!     I see the surgeon on Wednesday afternoon. Hope it can be scheduled soon. watched what youtube videos I could find. I was fairly sore from the biopsy procedure, as the "tiny mass" is right beneath the nipple, very sensitive. I run a horse boarding barn and do almost all the work myself. I am wondering how much assistance I need to ask for. I need to be able to lift and carry 50 lbs. I was told not to lift more than 5 lbs with my left arm for 3 days after the biopsy which seems much smaller surgery than the duct excision. I am also signed/paid up to attend a 10 mile trail ride in less than a month. Sure want to go.

    Hi I just want to ask If somebody already experienced total duct removal and after a year of surgery there is a discharge coming out of the nipple again?

    I'm having this same procedure done on Wednesday for a small papilloma that is at the 6:00 position in my breast.The Dr. said they would make an incision around my nipple? Is this normally what they do? How big is the incisin normally and will it change the appearence of my nipple? My Dr. isnt worried because there were no cancer cells with my core needle biopsy. It just needs to come out

    I found a couple YouTube video of duct excision that might explain a lot. I am having this in early May, also no cancer cells in needle biopsy, but was advised until all the mass is removed, and evaluated we can't be 100% sure.

    thank you for sharing. I don't think I will have the wire locate process, as my mass was immediately under the nipple and so when they remove the central ducts they will get it. I find the mammogram process extremely painful, and could not imagine standing there for an hour in the machine. I tolerate the 3-4 seconds it takes to get the xray by not breathing and counting. I go in for this in early May. After my two big horse events in April are over. Were you given restrictions following: like no lifting more than 5 lbs for x # of days? I own/manage a horse boarding barn with 19 horses in my care and if I am restricted I will need to arrange for help on those days.
