Cartilage lump?
Is it possible to have an attached lump in your breast that is just cartilage?! Thank you in advance!

The short answer is no.
In my experience once or twice a month a patient would indicate they had a lump but they were actually feeling a costochondral junction, the bumpy portion of the rib near the sternum that is partially made up of cartridge.
Have you seen your doc about this?

No I have not yet, I have been watching this new lump for a little over a month to make sure it wasn’t hormonal, it is in the right breast feels fairly firm, somewhat movable I can push it over a little but it always goes right back it’s near the areola. Looking at the picture you posted I would say it is in between the 3rd and 4th rib it’s deep

Let us know what your doctor thinks about it and what imaging they order

I have an appointment with the breast doctor for April 11th, for now I’m going to continue to take an anti inflammatory medication to see if that makes a difference, my right Axillary node is palpable now as well but I wouldn’t say it’s necessarily swollen, I shall continue to wait and let everyone know! If it matters I had a chest X-ray in the beginning of February and it was clean but I don’t know if it could pick up breast lumps, it didn’t for the lump that’s in my left breast unless my dr just didn’t mention it because we already know and are keeping an eye on that one! Thank you!

A routine chest x-ray will not show a breast cancer.

Oh ok good to know thank you

Hi Outnumbered, good to see you’ve got an appointment to get things checked out. While you’re waiting there is a wonderfully supportive membership here that’s got your back! Make use of the resources and don’t hesitate to use these boards to post. Hoping only the best for you!

Thank you Egads007! My appointment on the 11th has been scheduled since January to recheck the lump in my left breast, while I’m there I will mention this new lump if it hasn’t disappeared or changed by then, I’m really thinking it might be just normal breast tissue and I’m maybe a little hyper aware of my breasts now since finding the lump in my left back around Christmas! Either way I don’t remember it ever being there before but who knows maybe my mind is getting the best of me

Outnumbered...I don’t think there’s a woman or man out there that doesn’t become hyper aware after finding a lump (or even an imagined one lol)..that would put you right smack dab in the normal range. Sounds as if you have a good handle on it, and are most likely right....and the stats confirm that as most findings are benign. Hoping your appointment goes well, let us know how you do!

I will add that I do not find a matching lump like this in my left breast, in fact that area feels completely normal in my left breast opposed to the right, but my left is bigger and more fatty LO

So very true it is a little nerve wracking, You ladies that have gone through this are amazing and inspiring, I’m thankful us newbies have you ladies to look up to and ask for guidance! I definitely will keep everyone posted thank you again for taking time to reply!

I'll just add - make sure that your doctor adds the other breast to the order if you're going elsewhere for imaging. If it's not listed than it most likely wouldn't be done.

I will be going to the same big university hospital that did my ultrasounds that found the lump in my left breast, they put me on the 6 month watch and wait approach for 2 years when they found that lump in January, The visit in April is just supposed to be a clinical exam unless there are changes felt or seen I see a nurse practitioner who works in the breast care clinic at that hospital, She said she always lets her patients come back in 3 months for another clinical exam to lessen anxiety, The lump in my left breast is not palpable so unless it grows to where I can feel it or her I’m wondering if she’ll even recommend any imaging to be done that day. But now with this new lump ( or whatever it is LOL ) I hope she does and I can request a bilateral ultrasound to compare to the one In January that I had! Thank you for the advice NotVeryBrave!
