Hi everyone

This roller coaster started for me on 12/28 when I ended up having a needle core biopsy after a diagnostic mammogram and an ultrasound. The results of that biopsy - 'Pathology results demonstrate fragments of benign breast tissue with areas of fibrocystic change, columnar cell alteration without atypia, and a 0.1 cm focus of radial scar formation in one core. A few variably sized microcalcifications are identified within benign breast lobules. Although a small radial scar is present, the overall pathology does not fully account for the imaging abnormality, therefore, these results are thought to be discordant with the initial imaging findings. Surgical consultation is recommended both for the small radial scar and radiologic pathologic discordance.'

I had to wait for this biopsy because I had to change insurance and get seen by Kaiser Permante doctors here in GA. Since the date is looming, I'm really worried about scarring and looking disfigured. I looked up the procedure codes this morning and saw that they are billing for ones that are used for excision of breast lesions, where attention to surgical margins and assurance of complete tumor resection is unnecessary. Now I'm worried about this piece.

I'm going to bring this up on the surgery day along with my concerns about scarring. I just found this website last night and am reaching out to anyone who has been in a similar situation.

    My wire-guided biopsy was actually my lumpectomy. They don't know for sure what they're dealing with until they are able to get inside. My microcalcs were in an area less than 1 cm so there was no disfiguring. However, after rads, my left breast became firmer, perkier, and a cup size smaller. Not enough to bother me.

    I had an excisional biopsy with the guide wire after my mammogram/ultrasound (I skipped doing a needle biopsy). I’m not sure the exact amount they took out but didn’t notice anything missing, just the small added scar afterwards, which the surgeon was able to place at the edge of my nipple, eventually would be hardly noticeable had I not later gotten a mastectomy. Recovering was easy, basically just had to stop my cardio routine for 2 weeks to let incision heal. The worst part was the bruising/soreness a few days later from where the wire went in.

    From there, getting pathology and an MRI determined on going back for a lumpectomy or mastectomy
