I do not have lymphedema but I am definitely at risk having had two nodes, a mastectomy and radiation on the cancer side.

I am looking at a spa menu and deciding what to do. Do you think this is safe to do?

IND YOUR ZEN RITUAL

120 min - Stress-reducing biodynamic flower essences detoxify the mind and body. Begin this mind-body cleanse ritual by soaking in our zen blend and truffle-infused bath while you sip a healing tonic. Dry brushing techniques are then used to engage the lymphatic system and calm the mind, followed by a hydrating custom massage. Your ritual will close with a self-guided pranayama breathing journey, allowing you to achieve deep serenity.

Hey, trvler, I have very mild truncal lymphedema; my lymph terapist advised against my soaking in a tub of H2O that was any warmer than tepid! I can't even imagine trying to sit a tub of tepid H2O, it sounds like torture to me. Because the risk of any infection, or skin aggravation, can trigger lymphedema at any time, I would not want them using a brush on the treatment area that had been used before. This spa treatment, since it is to stimulate the lymph system, might "overload" the cancer treatment quadrant. The massage used in lymphedema drainage massage is an extremely light-touch one . I have recently read on one of the lymphedema specific websites that even efflourage, hope I remembered how to spell that, which seems like a very mild massage, may not be recommended to use on lymph quadrants. Because I have sensitive skin & allergic dermatitis that flares up easily, I would also want to know every ingredient of all products that would come in contact w/ the skin during the spa treatment.

One thing you definitely should do if you decide to try this spa treatment is to let them know that you are high risk for lymphedema.

Lymphedema risk sure has been a bummer; I loved using the nice large, hot whirlpool at our sportsclub. I had never been one to put on gloves to protect my hands when cleaning, so I am constantly having to be mindful about what I do, but I surely do not want to start a serious flare of LE, if I can at all prevent it!

Hope you can find a spa treatment that seems safe, & get to enjoy some "you time".

Trvler welcome. Do visit a web site some of our girls developed called stepup-speakout.org to learn your risks of getting lymphedema. It's a great education tool.

Heavy message for people with le is not good.seeing that you are at risk only maybe you could tell them to stay away from the at risk quadrant. So if you had left nodes out then no massage to left arm, hand, left trunk down to about hip bone front and back. Use spine as the division of each side aprox.

All tools must be sterilized. And dry brushing done softly and correctly in the direction we drain is good for lymph fluid movement. Some swear by it.

The breathing part would be excellent especially if it was diaphramic breathing. Good for lymph.
