Uterine fibroids or uterine cancer

Options

I have chatted recently about this. I had a complete open abdominal hysterectomy this past Friday. During the surgery they did a frozen section to biopsy the fibroids which have grown during menopause . This came back benign. However my doctor said this is not 100 percent accurate. So we are waiting on final pathology. My emotions are so raw and I feel so alone. I am so tired of waiting and worrying. Have any of you had a frozen section done during surgery and it be accurate?

I don’t know if they do a frozen section at my surgery center or not. However I knew going into to the TAH that the chances of them finding cancer were remote. It’s just not that common. That knowledge on top of a preliminary benign test would reassure me. I’m glad you are past your surgery. Honestly for me it was not that bad and I have no idea why I waited so long. I hope your healing is going well. I hope you get B9 results very soon!

Thank you for your response Lucy. Were you fibroids growing in menopause? I am doing fine with the surgery, but waiting for the pathology results is so hard. I look stuff up on-line and it scares me so badly. I am having trouble eating and sleeping. My whole life seems to be on hold. It is so cruel to have to wait so long. Hopefully, I will get the results tomorrow. However, now I am not sure I even want to know because from what I read if it is the uterine sarcoma there is not much hope of survival and I have a grand baby on the way. I can't stop crying. Sorry for being so negative. I truly appreciate your encouraging words.

I couldn’t say if they were changing. I had an ooph two years earlier, but went back on Tamoxifen which played all sorts of tricks like endometrial thickening and a polyp. I just noticed on my path reportthat the weight of the uterus was larger than either breast removed during the PBM.

I was also heartened to learn that the treatment for many uterine cancers is the hysterectomy itself.

If I were to bet, I’d put money on the fact that you’ll be just fine. Hope you get your report soon. Waiting is so hard,
