My journey with BC started with routine mammo in January 2017 that showed microcalcifications in right breast. They were deemed stable and probably benign with diagnostic mammo's every 6 months. In the meantime, I found a lump in the opposite breast in September 2017 that turned out to be TN.

As of my latest MRI a few weeks ago, the microcalcifications are no longer there. Guessing chemo cleared them up.

I am getting a double mastectomy in 2 weeks.

Yes. I had scattered calcification in both breasts, since my first mammogram at age 40. They had stabilized, until last year when the mammogram revealed the 4.5 cm TNtumor in one breast only.

Aren't calcifications common, especially in older women? I thought they were generally benign. My MO told me not to worry about them.

I had calcifications in the right breast, and 3 yrs later diagnosed with early stage tnbc in that breast.

Negative or positive has no bearing on calcifications. Most of us develop calcifications in our breasts as we age. It is when they form certain patterns that they may indicate something is going on on imaging - most frequently DCIS.

    ThumbsUp

Thanks for the clarification, as I'm new to the site and reading as much information as possible to understand common findings knowing we are all different.

At some point I need to make choices when surgery gets closer.
