Itching , rash 5 years after rads??

Options

Hi Ladies,

I had radiation after lumpectomy and chemo for Stage II IDC .. 5 years ago.

Recently the radiated boob has been itchy like crazy. I spend most of my work day finding ways to secretly scratch my boob raw ... there is something that Looks like a rash but it has been that way pretty much since the radiation .. it just wasn't this itchy before.

Has this happened to anyone else??

I will be seeing a doc next week to rule out IBC .. but would like to hear what other experiences have been!

Ugh .. this anxiety this driving me crazy .. bringing back memories from the actual rads days ... heeelpppp!

Edit : I have tried a aloe, hydro cortisone , and a topical antibiotic that had helped on a previous occasion same boob. :(

Also generally I had tried various unscented moisturizers , aloe , bio oil , baby oil , coconut oil to relieve dryness and soothe the rashlike thing.

Hi Bingpot, and welcome to Breastcancer.org,

We're so sorry you're experiencing this uncomfortable side effect. We wanted to point out to you the main Breastcancer.org site's side effect page on Rash, which offers some tips to help manage this. Of course, seeing your doctor is always the best suggestion, so please let us know what you find out!

for instant relief, use vagicaine cream on it. Relief within seconds and yes it’s ok to use in other places. Maybe nerves are regenerating—common cause of itch that makes you rub yourself raw. Perhaps shingles. Let’s hope it’s the nerves...

I had something similar 3 years out, nothing stopped the itch. No wonder, it was shingles! I used google (don't recommend doing that) at the time and found pictures of IBC that looked exactly like my rash. Drove myself insane with anxiety, so I know where you're coming from. Hang in there, I know it seems an awful long wait to see the doctor, but you've got this wonderful community on your side to hold you up! There are a ton of things the rash might be, even simple dry winter skin. Let us know how the doctor's appointment goes!

This topic is the reason I joined this group just today. I suggest that you go see your radiologist right away. I too worried about IBC. My last radiation treatment was a year ago. This past Monday my breast where the cancer was found and removed became red, hot, and hurt. My doctor saw me yesterday and prescribed steroid cream. Today it is better. Because the rash/redness is so spread they feel it was a reaction from switching detergent, who knew. Anyone else have this issue
