Radial scar and ADH
Hello all! I've been on the imaging and biopsy merry-go-round since 12/19. The journey started thanks to my 3D diagnostic mammogram showing architectural distortion in my right breast. I had an MRI on 1/18/18, and that confirmed the area of concern. This was followed up by an MRI-guided biopsy on 1/30/18, and I got my results on 2/2/18 - I'm the proud owner of a radial scar and atypical ductal hyperplasia!
I met with my breast surgeon today, and she reviewed my results with me. The biopsy confirmed fibrocystic disease, which the doctor is obviously not concerned about. But with the radial scar and ADH she said the normal course of action is to have the area removed by excisional biopsy. I have that scheduled for 2/22/18. Has anyone else here gone through this?

Biopsy merry-go-round here as well. 3D mammogram and ultrasound with findings on right and left. Ultrasound guided biopsy on right - LCIS, ALH and radial scar. Radiologist noted suspicious areas behind the radial scar. MRI guided biopsy on left with LCIS, flat epithelial atypia and a host of other benign conditions. Had an excisional biopsy on both sides last week. Pain free and within 48 hours after surgery.
Results posted noted that in addition to the original biopsy findings, there were more radial scars on both sides, columnar cell change, apocrine metaplasia, other fibrocystic changes and multiple papillomas. Protein receptors P63 and a combined ADH-5 also tested and showed no additional issues. Waiting to meet with Dr. to decide next steps re: tamoxifen or just a wait-and-see approach. Am trying to find out if I can get genetic testing as well to help make a better informed decision.
With all of the benign conditions, i feel like I dodged a bullet, but the long-term outlook and how to approach it is perplexing and anxiety producing. If I find out more this week, I'll update this post.
Best of luck to you.

Thanks for the reply! It sounds like you have a lot of things going on, but I’m sure the info (while overwhelming) is good to have. Good luck with your follow-up

Hello,
I had a biopsy today following a 3D mammo that showed right distortion at 12 o'clock location with no calcifications. I am a wreck and hoping it will be a radical scar etc. The radiologist did not alleviate my concerns.. Did your radiologists tell you what they thought you had prior to the biopsy? Thanks and good wishes for you both.

Hi PeaceK-I was just diagnosed with a radial scar today. Two weeks ago I had the diagnostic mammo and ultrasound done because of an architectural distortion. Afterwards the radiologist met with me and said she thought it was a radial scar but a biopsy needed to be done. My gyn wanted me to meet with a breast surgeon. The breast surgeon said if it is a radial scar it would need to be removed( malignant cells could be hiding in or behind radial scars) so she recommended I just have it removed, instead of the stereotactic biopsy. Just had that done last week and the results were what the radiologist suspected, a radial scar.
I know how hard waiting for the results can be. My anxiety was so high. This site was very helpful though. Praying you get B9 results. Hang in there. Did you get a birads score on your mammo? -
This same thing happened to me! I am 21 years old! I had the surgery and it took a while to get over. I had 3 lumps and a lot of tissue removed. Don't expect your breasts to not change after the surgery. I am currently waiting on genetic testing results myself!
