In researching my options for treatment, I came across this clinical trial:

https://clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT02926911

I am going to meet with the doctors and see if I feel this is a good option for me. They have study centers all over the country, so if anyone else here is interested, take a look! Basically, they are studying what happens when DCIS is just monitored closely, with only endocrine treatment.

My husband's cousin is doing this study in CA. I am shocked at the changes in her body from the Tamoxifen and she has a lot of bone and joint issues now, as well as weight gain. It makes me feel glad to have done what I chose. She, likewise, is happy with her choice.

That’s what I was afraid of, the tamoxifen. That might be the deal breaker for me. I also hear bad things about it

My BS mentioned this study to me. I didn't qualify because I had grade 3 DCIS with comedo necrosis but he is knows some of folks involved with this study and feels it may be a good option for some of his patients.

Interesting. I suppose I would have been a candidate, except that the original biopsy pathology came back as grade 3 and was subsequently downgraded after lumpectomy. They might consider researching better, more accurate biopsy methods.
