Anyone living with an ostomy and no breasts

Options

Hello all. I have been living with an ostomy since I was 12 years old due to ulcerative colitis. Then I was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age 37. I have a wonderful autsitic young man and married to my best friend riding this journey together. I feel like I'm the only one out there who has both health diagnosis and i just can't believe that. I want to connect with others for support and see what others are doing for different treatment options.

    Dear MrsWheelerjr75,

Welcome to the BCO community. We are so sorry that your breast cancer brought you here. It sounds as though you have been through more than your share over the course of your life. We hope that you will find some support and shared experiences here. It is hard to know who if anyone in the community has also had an ostomy. You might use the search button in the blue tool bar and use the word ostomy and such will lead you to other posts using the word. It might not offer what you need but you may find someone that way. If you would tell us a bit more about your breast cancer we can direct you to other forums and topics that might be of help. The Mods

    Dear Mrswheelerjr75,

I am a 40 year old woman living with no breasts and a colostomy too. I have had severe Crohn's disease for 20 years now and I have had breast cancer twice... last time was in 2014, and as it turned out to be a brca 1 mutation. Knowing that, I had both my breasts amputated and my ovaries taken out in 2014. It is very hard to deal with life when it gives you such ridiculous surprises, but you are definitely not alone. I am in a menopause now, having a lot of pain and anxiety, but I am fighting. Please know that I understand how you feel, people can't grasp the consequences of these two diseases together. But you are still here, even though the road may be really hard.

If you want to chat in private, please let me know, then we can exchange details.

Please be brave and don't give up,

There are many others like us in this big world and we can support each other.

    Dear MrsWheelerjr75 and Feyawings:

My 59 year old sister had a large benign tumor in her colon that was removed last year and she has an ostomy now. In checking to see if the tumor was metastatic we discovered that her breast cancer, for which she had a mastectomy on the right side in 2013, had metastasized to several locations in her body, so one breast and an ostomy and stage iV breast cancer. My sister has Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome, which is childhood-onset epilepsy with cognitive disability, so she can't participate in this forum herself or articulate how this affects her. Probably not what you were hoping for in terms of support, but if there are things I should be aware of on behalf of my sister related to ostomies and mastectomies, I would appreciate anything you feel comfortable sharing.

BTW, my other sister had ulcerative colitis and my brother has an ostomy from Crohn's disease.

    Thanks
