edited March 2018 in Not Diagnosed But Worried

hi

I found a pea size lump on the outer aspect of my left breast 4 weeks ago. It looked like a bite . Skin around it looked red . I’ve worked for NHS for over 32 yrs as a nurse and now, midwife . Nursed women with breast cancer whilst nursing . Never had any thing in my breast before . My maternal aunt had breast cancer and treated successfully . I’m over 50 yrs and had a mammogram 3 yrs ago and was normal. I went to my gp and said it was just under the skin and was not concerned . Luckily my 3 truly mammogram came in the post so I went along . Since the I tried the antibiotic cream gp gave but did nothing except cause some pain . Now I have another blemish near the aerola and the lump is changing colour to brown and hurts. I’m so worried I don’t know what to do next . Seen IBC pictures and looks like one I’ve got . Would the mammogram so that ? What do I do if the mammogram is normal ? What do I do next ? I’m so worried

You are over 50 with close family history of breast cancer and have a lump and last mammogram was 3yrs ago? Get another mammogram done first.

She said shehad a mammogram. Her doctor said it was a skin issue, not a breast issue.

Hi Frankie, you could speak to the doctor about doing another mammogram and talk plainly about your anxiety. As Recap mentioned It has been three years, so another Mammogram wouldn’t be an unreasonable request. If they do find nothing, as MelissaDallas suggested you could see a dermatologist to rule out a skin disorder or infection. Don’t compare yourself to pictures, it’s only going to scare you further. I had a rash on my breast 2 years ago and compared it to pictures online. I completely freaked myself out....it looked exactly like ibc...turned out to be shingles lol. Give your doc a call and discuss your concerns. Google isn’t going to be able to diagnose this. Keep us posted please

Hi Frankie . ....you have gone 3 years without mammogram why the Dr is not recommending one ?

I don't know the guidelines for women over 50 but if it was me I would've insisted

It could also be an infection why suffer in anxiety...

then follow up with the results. Good luck to you.

We need to stay on top of things.

    Hugs

    Sheila

This, to me, said that after her GP appointment she got her letter to go have her mammogram, so she went

" Luckily my 3 truly mammogram came in the post so I went along ." She just didn't say what the results of the recent mammogram was.

Return to GP or to a dermatologist and have them re-examine the area. If it does not respond to antibiotic creams, it may need an oral antibiotic. If it does not respond, discuss the possibility of a punch biopsybwith your doc. That will help determine exactly what it is so treatment can target it.

I know any breast issues are stressful. Hoping you get it resolved quickly
