Core biopsy and titanium marker

Calcifications can be associated with a wide variety of benign causes but also cancer. Some of these calcifications look different enough to predict which is which but some are in that middle grey zone. If you develop new calcifications between mammograms, we as breast imaging radiologists are obliged to prove what kind they are.
The purpose of a biopsy is not to remove all the calcs but to sample them so see if they are benign or malignant. If benign they are harmless and left in. If malignant, they will have to be removed with a 1-2 cm margin at surgery, and this cannot be done through a biopsy needle.
Also remember calcifications are not the disease, they are a finding produced by the disease. They are the smoke not the fire.

I had my stereo biopsy done on March 1st. It was totally unnecessary and I can't believe how foolish I was to agree to it. So it was hurting then got better. Now in the 20th of March my nipple is constantly burning. Also I believe my arm pit has been swollen on that side ever since. I went to a top notch specialist after that bc I actually need a benign spot removed on ANOTHER breast ( that one we had a regular biopsy on)she checked me and said everything was ok. But why the heck am I still in pain? In fact it got worse from the tim I saw her for a consultation. She told me I did everything right. But it seems to me doctors r just covering for each other. She'd never tell me I had an unnecessary procedure. I wonder if I need those markers removed. I can't believe I was that foolish. It was just small calcifications. The nurse was nasty. She did something to my arm pressing on it so hard now I can't even lift it properly. But that should be the least of my worries.

I had a similar experience. The core needle was torture and It went on for two hours to biopsy two sites that were fine. And the radiology implanted nitinol tag even though they were aware that I have a nickel allergy. The radiologist said they did not know what nitonol was. Nor did anyone in that office! How can this happen?! How can we trust the medical community? I have paid $1k of the multi thousand dollar bill so far. What if my family needs more medical care this year? I hope this nitinol tag cause no trouble, but I will always be left wondering.
Protocol is for 6 month follow ups for the next two years. Not or not w that docs office, right?
