edited March 2018 in Not Diagnosed But Worried

Hello! I've been lurking around here for a long time but have never actually posted. I'm 32 and have been having right breast issues/pain for going on 3 years. My mom is a 30 year breast cancer survivor (34 at diagnosis).

I'll keep my long story as condensed as I can. First of all, I am large breasted and have been told I have dense breast tissue. As a teen, I had a small pea sized lump just under the skin in the crease of my right breast for about a year. One day, it just wasn't there. Fast forward through 3 babies. No issues with mastitis or breastfeeding. In 2015, I started having breast tenderness. It wasn't horrible at that point but it was worrisome enough to see my doctor. I had a u/s and mammo just on the right side. I was told to wait in the waiting room as something was abnormal. About 20 minutes later, I was told everything was fine and that I just have fibrocystic breasts. In 2016, the tenderness had turned into actual pain. It feels like a jolt of lightening going from deep inside the breast out through the nipple. I decided to see my doctor again and was sent for an MRI. My doctor told me at my follow up appt that the MRI showed nothing. I also had blood work done and all was normal. Fast forward to 2017, the pain is still there. It has also spread to my neck, shoulder, back, rib area and most recently, my right arm. I decided to make an appt with a breast surgeon and was asked to bring the reports from my past tests. I had never seen these reports and was told everything was normal, so it came as a shock to me that my 2015 u/s and mammo both showed a single dilated duct and my 2016 MRI showed a 2.7 x 3.0 unidentified hypoechoic mass. My consultation with the breast surgeon went very well. She felt the mass and has me scheduled for a u/s and mammo on the 27th. I feel at ease with this doctor and have high hopes we will figure this all out.

My anxiety has been through the roof so I guess I'm just looking for some words of encouragement from others who know what this feels like. I'm so tired of being in pain and having no answers!

Hi there and welcome! The good news for sure is that you've had an MRI (they are super sensitive) and no one to date has suspected breast cancer. Also great is that you have a BS you trust and tests scheduled. So breathe, be optimistic, and know that the process should give you some answers on the pain. We're rooting for you.

Hi Mnull6114...welcome to the community. I agree with Georgia that your situation looks pretty good so far and that between your MRI and surgeon you’ll be getting things cleared up soon. Unfortunately the waiting is absolute agony.... it never gets easier and most here will tell you that it’s the worst part of the whole process. I took my diagnosis 4 years ago better than the waiting! Try your best to keep all you’ve been told so far in perspective, and when you can’t, post on here. We’re here for you! Keep us up on how things go when you can...you’ll find this community an awesome source of comfort and strength.

Egads007 - Thank you so much. ☺ I know my chances of having anything really serious going on are very slim, even despite my family history (my great grandma also had breast cancer). You are so right about the waiting though! Just trying to take it one day at a time although the pain never lets the anxiety completely disappear.

Mnull6114, I hear ya loud and clear hun...I’m playing the waiting game right now for a mammogram call back happening Monday. Definitely NOT the way to spend a Saturday night! I sometimes wonder if the collective energy of all the waiting anxiety on these boards could be harnessed whetherwe’d be able to do away with fossil fuels lol!

Egads007 - Haha! Wouldn't that be something?! I'm so sorry you're in wait also! I truly hope your appt on Monday goes well. You'll be in my thoughts and prayers!
