Worried about IBC

Hi,

I'm a 31 year old mother of two children (2 and 3 months) and am worried about IBC.

I've always had one breast possibly slightly bigger than the other, although more pronounced during breastfeeding (I woke up this morning and the left breast was much bigger than the right) although seemed to even out after breastfeeding. i've always had some problems- I had a little sore lump on the side between the breast and armpit, which my doctor said not to worry about because it's not actually on the breast. That's still sore.

Two weeks ago, I had a red spot on my breast that was slightly inflamed. I scratched it and it came out in a really angry red rash. The rash died down in a few days to sort of pink/purple colour patch. I went to my GP who gave me antibiotics for infection for 7 days and also some hydrocortisone cream. Neither cleared it up. Then about 4 days, it really started to hurt, especially after breastfeeding for a couple of hours. Like a deep ache. It's still sore on the side and the skin is tender, especially after a shower. I've got a couple of other little pink spots.

Had a normal ultrasound a week ago.

I see a breast surgeon on Monday but I'm in such a high state of anxiety about it. I know it's not normal and I have two young children. I'm a mess.

Hi, I have no experience with IBC but just wanted to let you know that it is rare but it is good you are getting it checked out. We have to be our own advocates for our concerns. From what I have read a skin biopsy is the way to diagnose IBC. If after seeing the Dr on Monday, you still have concerns ask/insist on one. I know others have had to go to a dermatologist to get one. The anxiety and fear you are going thru is completely normal. Try to not let yourself go to the dark place. Keep busy this weekend doing things you enjoy or if you are like me-clean or do yard work! Lol I hope you get some answers Monday and good news!!! In my prayers

Breastfeeding moms often pose IBC questions here and they nearly all turn out to be needless worry. Fortunately you have the medical system cranked up for you and let's wait and see what they decide. Let us know how you go.

I know breastfeeding mums can get IBC.

I guess I'm nervous because the rash on the breast hasn't gone away despite various creams, antibiotics etc...

I keep reading about people who have pain and a small rash and end up only having a few months to live. With two babies, this is devastating.

Stick to your diagnosis plan. You really do have such a small chance of having IBC.

IBC is very rare and very aggressive. It gets worse rapidly, as in hours and days, not weeks AND they symptoms never get better, only worse, and again VERY RAPIDLY.

Average age of IBC is 60, and (if I recall my stats correctly) it's the rarest form of bc (1%?)

What you have described doesn't sound like IBC at all.
