Constant back pain

Hello Everyone,

I could really use some reassuring right now.

I have been on Tamoxifen for 3months. I began having SE's immediately. The first tablet was nausea, but was gone by the second tablet. Within the first week my lower back was uncomfortable, but not agony. I told the oncologist and he ordered an x-ray which came back clear. Back ache persisted. He then ordered a whole body bone scan which was also clear. I pray that you all can share with me your experiences. I do experience the other pain and joint aches as well, but they seem less persistent and not as annoying. I saw oncologist today to request a ct scan. He agreed and now I wait for approval from insurance and then the scan. My question is how likely are two test to have missed something ? I know an X-ray may not be very informative, but I think the bone scan should offer the doctor enough insight. I could really use the answers and support of you ladies. Thank you all for any advice and support that you all will share.

I also just completed all active treatment 1/29/18 and I’m 54 years old.

I had a scare a few years ago. I knew I had a herniated lumbar disc, but this pain was different. Went for mri. Came back as arthritis stenosis disc degeneration and the bad disc. But NOT cancer.

Our minds tend to go dark places with pain. It’s good to get it checked out. Hope yours is B9.

Hi humblepeace, I'm glad you are getting an MRI to rule things out. Back pain can be from so many things. I had severe lower back pain a few years back. It lasted for 3 months before I finally did something about it. It just got so debilitating. After a few sessions with a very good back therapist, the pain finally went away. Every once in awhile when I get stressed, my back starts acting up. I do some back exercises and am fine again.

Following as I have had constant back pain for about 2 weeks. I am on letrozole. Humblepeace let us know how it goes. Best of luck. I would think if your bone scan was clear it must be something else.

    Hello gkbuser,

Thanks for your follow-up. I almost did exactly what I don’t like for others to do and that’s make an inquiry post and then never respond with the outcome. So, thanks for checking in on me. I did have a ct scan and it was clear. It did show Arthritis in the L4 and L5 as well as a protruding disc which the oncologist stated did not happen overnight and maybe a result of very large fibroids that I have had for many years. But, he wasn’t sure so I was referred back to my primary care doctor . I will also see a rheumatologist. It’s actually nice that after the test results were a good report my back pain has settled down a bit lol. Thanks again and God bless you.
