Pain Only
First nipple pain only eight days ago 2/11/18. The internet led me to Paget's Nipple and your site. Doctor appointment in eight days. At 85 and male I seem to be a rarity. Perhaps this will go away, but it seems spot on. The pain has persisted unchanged.

Hi HtMj0-
We're so sorry you're experiencing this worrying symptom. It is a rarity, but any changes should always be brought to your doctor's attention, so we're glad you've got an appointment coming up! Please keep us posted on what you find out, we're thinking of you.

Thanks Moderator for responding within 24 hours to my first posting. Good work.
My internist responded via Edina AllinaHealth.org. "I suspect it is some soft tissue tenderness or perhaps a mild muscle strain. If not too terribly uncomfortable, I think we could discuss it more at your upcoming visit," which is Tuesday.
The pain is not constant. Pressing gently on the right nipple (like on a switch button) produces moderate pain. A fingertip away does not. The left nipple does not respond.
It is not worse. However, it is not better. So odd. Plan to share doctor's visit 2/27. ---HtMj0

My internist saw me today, 2/27. He certainly produced pain by pressing on the button, my right nipple. Without being able to feel a lump or lumps underneath he wants to let this go for now before getting an ultrasound. If and when this clears or gets worse I will go off-line. Tnx, HtMj0.

Male breast cancer happens, but not very often.
About 1% of all new breast cancer cases are males; 100 women are diagnosed with breast cancer at an average age of 60 for each man diagnosed at an average age of 69. I happen to be 85.
Four weeks ago today I noticed my right nipple and the tissue beneath it was painful. Pressing that nipple really hurt.
The Internet is amazing when it comes to yielding information. Paget's Disease of the Nipple seemed to fit. "Paget's disease of the nipple is a rare form of breast cancer in which cancer cells collect in or around the nipple, etc.
My internist ordered a mammogram and ultrasound at Piper Breast Center in Plymouth, MN.
Two days ago a technician took mammograms of my right nipple from four different angles plus one of the left chest for comparison. On review, the Piper doctor said there is no cancer of the right nipple area; it is Gynecomastia. She recommended two drugs be changed. Of 11 different daily meds I found a third one to change. There was no ultrasound or biopsy done.
I had never heard of male gynecomastia. It is an endocrine system disorder in which there is a non-cancerous increase in the size of male breast tissue. "Conservative management of gynecomastia is often appropriate as the condition commonly resolves on its own."
The source said 10-25% of the cases are caused by medications. That is pretty low so I intend to cool it, change none, and watch. This is not a big deal since it is not cancer. I have coordinated this with my internist. I intend to be carefully observant moving forward. I feel like I have dodged a bullet.

Im so happy for you that you got it figured out and no cancer!

WOW! Good for you. You have fought a hard battle. Keep it up.
At 16 my 15 year old best friend drove under the corner of a parked truck. The windshield was torn off and I was thrown high. Smashing to the concrete, my liver was shattered. Two months later, after more than 100 pints of blood and plasma I was down to 86 pounds from a slim 165 at 6ft 2inches. Four months on a surgical ward. After a month at home, I had to go back for four months on the medical ward. Hepatitis B from at least one transfusion. Challenges. God is good.
I see you are a Missourian. In 1955 I married a wonderful girl from Missouri. We have shared 63 years.

Details, details. Norman and I pushed his father's war surplus Jeep out of the garage, down the alley, and fired it up for a joy ride after we finished 10th grade. The Jeep had no top. That is how I was able to be thrown high when the windshield was torn off. Not much money for a new windshield. A life change for me, before the recent cancer scare.
