Drug interaction question....
I just started Tamoxifen. I asked my oncologist if any of my meds have an interaction with it. I'm on Vyvance for ADD, and Amitriptyline for migraine prevention (10 mg). I feel a bit heady today...just weird and a little dizzy at times. My doctor assured me there should be no issues with my meds, and that Tamoxifen only really interacts with antidepressants. Amitriptyline is, technically, an antidepressant, although it's now more commonly used for other reasons. Are any of you on both of these meds, and if so, any issues? I should also mention I have a mild mitral valve prolapse, but I take no meds for it. Thanks in advance for your comments!

I am not on Tamoxifen or an anti-depressant, but have seen this topic come up over the time I have been on this site. Here is a pretty comprehensive list of the many drugs that interact with Tamoxifen. Anti-depressants, and Benadryl, are the most frequently discussed here on BCO. Here is the link:

I think you should find a well trained pharmacist to look into this for you.
I believe there is a contraindication that has to do with CYP2D6 inhibition and potentially reducing effectiveness of the tamoxifen
https://www.rxlist.com/drug-interactions/perphenaz...your clinicians may still decide that these medications are best for you but I'd follow up. My cancer center has an oncology pharmacist which provides expert advice on drugs used by cancer patients. Perhaps see if your center has such a department?

teacher- I felt like that when I first started Tamoxifen. I called it “medicine head” to my husband, and I wasn’t taking any other meds. A little bit like having a little too much to drink. I was taking mine right before bed, so it kinda helped me sleep back then. It did go away after a month or so. Hope this helps!

Thanks, friends! Cpeachymom, that’s exactly how I feel. Hopefully, it wanes after a bit

My head felt that way too on tamoxifen. It eventually progressed to brain fog where i literally felt like I was walking around in a fog and would forget what i was doing/saying, what i was planning to do/say, words would just fail me right in the middle of a sentence, recall was greatly affected (I'm in medical sales so this was not a good thing at all) and i even had issues knowing where i was at times. One afternoon on the way home from work I really thought I was completely lost as the exit I take off the highway didn't look at all familiar. I started to panic because I truly had no idea where i was. Thankfully another part of brain was taking me home by rote. I eventually figured out where I was but it was VERY scary on so many levels. I don't tell you this to scare you, rather to give you things to watch out for. If these start to happen definitely reach out to your MO to check into alternatives to tamox therapy.

Try asking your doctor to split your dose into 2 10mgs per day... I take one at 8pm and another at 11pm. I started taking 10mgs for 2 weeks, then increased slowly. The tricyclic should not have any effect on Tamoxifen.

I agree with moth. A pharmacist is your best bet!

Thanks guys! The brain fog scares me a bit. I mean, I already take meds for my ADD! Feeling pretty good so far today!
