Clustered pleomorphic micro calcifications

toobusy, welcome to bco! sorry you're here with breast health concerns! My advice is to breathe! Let them know if you have issues getting numb at the dentist (when they give you numbing agents) as this will be similar. They will most likely give you a small ice pack you can put in your bra for later; ask for a second one so that one stays in your bra and one in the freezer to swap out. Do remember that 70-80& of biopsies are b9. If you get confusing language in your pathology report, just post it here and we can help you figure it out. Good luck!

Update.
I went today for my stereotactic biopsy. After 4 attempts at mammograms, they were not able to do it because my microcalcifications are too far back. Monday, I have to call my specialist Ang go to Pittsburgh, PA for a fine wire insertion and then go to the OR for an excisional biopsy. I am hoping they will put me to sleep for this. The doctor today let me see the mammogram. There are 5 microcalcifications and she is guessing DCIS by looking at them. This is actually what I am expecting. Can't wait until biopsy is done and results are back! My breast and ribs are so sore!

hi idk if i will get any replies since i am new....i have several clustered califications in both breast & similar ones prodomently faint in back ground...i am terrified ...i have a very strong family history of cancers....they gave me a birads 3. Can anyone help calm my nerves....the report says NO CANCER but probably benign....how can it be NO CANCER & probably b9 at the same time???? Either it is or it isnt!!!!!! Thanks
-
Dawn, So sorry you're here and clearly freaked out due to family history and a recent confusing imaging report. Please take a deep breath. BIRADS 3 findings (based on their characteristics) are classified as "probably benign", and the positive predictive value of BIRADS 3 score (meaning the percent that are actually cancer) is considered less than 1%. Read more about that scoring system here: http://breast-cancer.ca/bi-rads/ So there is less than a 1% chance that it is bc, so it is probably b9. Women with these findings are usually given a shorter interval follow up recommendation to insure that the area is stable (6 months for a couple of years).
Good luck!

Thank You MTwoman...i guess i am focusing on family history...5 siblings have passed...2 breast cancer...2 salvia gland cancer...1 lung cancer....and the word pleomorphic. I have seen my siblings go through a horrifying time. I have very high anxiety any way and this has really upped it. I go March 16th 2018 for my 6 month mammo. I havent rest for those 6 months. Stated my microcalifications are clustered ...Pleomorphic with mixed rather coarse micros. Thank you...i just do not understand report. I had a breast surgeon look at mammo ...he said it should be fine...still scared to death.

Best of luck for clear b9 results on the 16th!

Had a biopsy for microcalcifications yesterday. Doctor's office just called and said the lab notified them my results would be in this afternoon, and could I come in at 10am tomorrow, I asked if they could let me know as soon as they get the results, and they said it's too late in the day!!!! OMG, is this bad news????
-
Why would you think that meant bad news?
-
I don't know......why wouldn't they just tell me today, instead of going the slow torture route? 🤤 And is it usual to get results in one day? I know I'm driving myself crazy, but does anyone know how long the actual lab test takes?
-
TaraLee, each lab is different in how long it takes, their workload vs their man hours. I don't recommend worrying solely because they got your labwork done quickly. Call them in the morning and try not to worry too much this evening. Best of luck!

I have DCIS grade 2. As explained to me, I don’t have cancer, I have cancer cells contained, that could get out any second now. Options: lumpectomy, single breast masectomy, both breast masectomy.
If I get both breasts lopped off, I’ll never have to worry about breast cancer again, which technically I don't have now. And, I’ll never have to deal with mammos again. This was pointed out and written in the negative column of getting the lumpectomy. Any other choice requires radiation (NOT chemo), and taking a pill for about 10 years.
Ahhh...
-
TaraLee, having a double mastectomy greatly reduces the chance of recurrence, but it does not eliminate it. No matter how good your surgeon is there will always be a small amount of breast tissue remaining, thus there will always be a small chance of recurrence.
-
Thanks. My doctor gave me a list of negatives for having a lumpectomy. Then she gave a list of negatives for having the double mastectomy. As she was writing them, she said, well these aren’t really negatives, as if it were an afterthought. She did actually write “almost” zero chance breast cancer as a reason to have a double mastectomy. Every “negative” was actually a positive.
My concern is that the negatives of the lumpectomy (and I have no lump either, as I think I have in common with most ladies with dcis) vs. the “negatives” of a double masectomy were strongly guiding me towards the double mastectomy.
It’s annoying
-
Statistically the low odds of recurrence become higher the more tissue that is still there to recur in. So even though there is still a small risk with mastectomy due to leaving behind some tissue, it is automatically less risk because it is less tissue left behind. You cannot eliminate the risk entirely with either option. When they talk about safe margins there is a risk increaser involved with that lumpectomy-after they cut, if pathology shows those cells still in the margins, they may have to re-cut, plus they may have turned loose some of those cells that move on to roost elsewhere.

hi guys, sounds nice to be on very informative site.
my wife aged 41 felt lump in her right breast just adjacent to nipple. she had irregular menstrual and catching fever very often. so visited gynecologist who advised for mammography+ultrasound and prescribed some pills to use for five days . her early diagnosis was.. simple breast lump..
upon mammogrphy:: result showed that breasts are heterogenously dense glandular tissue,no suspicious looking calfications seen , no skin or nipple inversion seen.no intra mammary lymph nodes seen.
Ulttrasound result. : result showed. both breast hv increased amount of glandular tissue.one hypo echoic well circumscribed solid nodule of 30mmx19mm on right breast upper central.nodule showed good through transmission and avascular on doppler. no duct dilation, no nipple or skin inversion seen.
Impression: their impression was Benign looking opacity ,well circumscribed solid nodule. they said it might be FIBRO ADENOMA. FNAC was advised.
upon above test breast specialist prescribed some pills and lump reduced apx more than 50% than previous size.
FNAC result: fine needle aspiration exercized and they prepared three smears of tissues.during needle biopsy.
they showed in result that two poppulation of epithelial cells seen. one poppulation made by many clusters of medium cells hvng round to oval nuclei , scanty cytoplams. Other poppulation comprised 2-3 clusters of large size hvng modestly pleomorphic nuclei and small amount of cytoplasm. these cells appear atypical.
DIAGNOSIS. a few atypical cells are seen. Biopsy is recommended.
upon above FNAC we consulted senior cancer specialist and oncologist. who said he can remove the lump or if my wife is not willing then it can be cured with continous medication of six months. he said it is benign lump . he prescriped chymoral forte tab thrice a day with Primol-E one capsule daily.
it is about 8 days now that lump is almost disappeared or felt only when my wife try to locate it by pressing breast. besides medicines she also started to use extra virgin Olive oil two spoons before breakfast. However, last night she again had fever and pain in breast.
Guys could you help me out?
my wife went into tests of mammographic+ultrasound and then FNAC biopsy. but why after FNAC they recommended another biopsy?
while my wife is unwilling for it and seeing her feelings oncologist went for medication instead of lump surgery. my wife is mother to 4 grown babies with no cancer history in materenal or paternal side even she fed her own milk to babies.Imperitive to mention that her HB has been pretty low thourhgout of her life ... around 6 to 8 .
hope i could be releived with your authentic views?
regards

Lisajane123, have you found out anything yet? Hoping all is benign!
Mehr2018, as we said in our private message, we are really sorry for what you and your wife are going through, not knowing what is going on. A second opinion, and perhaps additional testing (like blood work, etc), may really be helpful.
We are thinking of all of you!

Tnx Lisa jane, yes she is retrieving health and her lump is almost unflet which was quite large 10 days back. actually for last few weeks she has been into premenstrual which surrounds twice a month or so. her lump was 3x2 inches three days before last menstrual but now it is less than half square inch and not easily palpable. dont know how it is reduced , by medicines she is taking for last few days or it was solid mass due to harmonal changes during irregular periods. i am just concerned why she caught fever today. if is is one of the side effects or inflamatory inections inside body?
