edited March 2018 in Not Diagnosed But Worried

Hi all! I'm new here and I was just hoping for a little insight/feedback on my current situation.

I am 27 years old and breast cancer runs in my family. About a yr ago i found a lump on the left side of my left breast. I was concerned and visited my obgyn. Then scheduled an ultrasound. The radiologist assured my that it was nothing to worry about and they will follow it every 6 months for 2 yrs. I have been back twice so far with them same results. However about a month ago i felt as if the lump has grown. It has really begun bothering me. My left side is very sensitive and the entire side from my breast and towards my armpit aches and it just doesn't go away. I went back again and was told the same thing. They advised i can have jt removed if id like but she doesnt think its necessary.

To be honest, I'm unsatisfied. So i called my obgyn Friday and advised i wanted a biopsy. She returned my call and wants to see me tomorrow afternoon.

I'm unfamiliar with this proces and i dont really know what to expect. I'm a single mother and i just want to make sure everything is OK. The word of mouth that they think its fine just doesnt give me any reassurance. I'm so nervous and scared.

Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance guys.

When you see your OB/gyn, request either a surgical consult, a different radiologist to consult about a core biopsy, or both.

Keep us posted. Do not be afraid to advocate for yourself

A core biopsy is less invasive than surgery. Ask your OB gyn about what he/she recommends and why

I think you're doing the right thing. Better safe than sorry. And you must advocate for yourself. Please let us know results.

MamaStewart, while you are there also ask for a copy of the ultrasound report. That way you'll know if it is a cyst or something else, which should give you a better idea of what they're monitoring and why. Knowledge is power! Good luck to you.

Do you have the reports of all your ultrasounds? What were the measurements of this lump on each of these reports?

hi guys. Thank you all for your feedback. I had the appointment today with my obgyn. She wants me to go see a specialist for a consultation. I think its a surgical consult. I told her my symptoms and she did a breast exam. She was very quiet after the exam. The office is closed as of now so i will call first thing in the morning to schedule that appointment.

I feel like they are not educating their patients on what breast cancer looks like as opposed to a cyst. I had a cyst on my right breast that was oval and uniform. They biopsies anyway and confirmed it was a cyst. The left side had a spider looking shape with vascular supply. Not all spots are that obvious but the radiologist was sure it was cancer so moved biopsy to the next day. Most women have no pain with breast cancer so don't let that part freak you out.

It is worth having a second opinion if this is concerning you but it probably wouldn't be concerning uou so.much if they had teen the time to better inform you and reassure you that they had confidence in the ultrasound reading.

i agree. Can cysts be cancerous? To be honest they haven't really explained much. Even if it is a cyst or what. I assume that's what is since no immediate action was requested.

Most likely, your gyn referred you to a breast surgeon, not necessarily for surgery, but for a skilled evaluation.  The breast surgeon is the one  doc who only examines breasts with lumps and bumps and issues and is therefore best qualified to recommend next steps.

Hi all! Just an update. I saw the specialist today. She said to get it biopsied. She asked why it hasn't been before. I advised they said it was unnecessary.

My appointment for that is tuesday. Hopeful for some answers... This wait is draining
