What is to help prevent the estrogen from wreaking havoc again, once this drug is stopped?

That you then go on an AI, or you are menopausal enough that you're producing much less estrogen.

My Med Onc has suggested I get my ovaries out. Or you could ask about ovary suppression if you are really worried. :)

I worry about this too. I have a family member that did tamoxifen for 5 years, an AI for 3 more then stopped. Her cancer came back stage 4---9 years after that. This haunts me because my cancer is pretty much the same, plus I had a positive node...

Lose weight if you are overweight as fat stores excess estrogen. Exercise at least 30 minutes a day. Avoid alcohol (which is estrogenic). Eat a mediterranean diet if possible...lots of veggies and fruits. Don't smoke....anything....there is no real formulae to prevent a recurrence other than these...no supplements are a cancer cure or preventative either. The first one is critical though.

Yes, exercise is huge. It can reduce the harmful estrogen. Also avoid estrogenic substances such as BPA from plastic food containers, and parabens in cosmetics. I think with grade 3 and positive nodes, it is reasonable to explore ovarian suppression or removal if you are still premenopausal, and aromatase inhibitors as well. Maybe get more than one opinion.
