Hi, about three weeks ago I went to the doctor due to a lump I discovered on my left breast. I was referred to a radiologist, who then referred me to a surgeon. I saw my surgeon today with the thought of having a biopsy done, but the doctor suggested I have the whole thing removed.

He told me he's 98% sure it's a fibroadenoma. But I'm still nervous. I'm 19 and beside having some teeth removed when I was little, this is my first surgery. Could someone tell me what it's like? Will I be put to sleep (like they do when they they remove your wisdom teeth?) I'm a baby when it comes to needles. Could i ask the nurse for a butterfly needle?

Thanks for helping calm my nerves :)

Hey, how big is your lump? If it's bigger than 4cm, then I would suggest to get it removed because it may cause discomfort to you later if it isn't causing already. I had a surgery in January 2017(I was 20 years old that time) on both my breasts for removing fibroadenomas. I got them removed specifically because they were all bigger in size (one of them was of 4.6cm)

Coming to the surgery procedure, it was smooth. I was told not to eat anything after 10pm from the day before of my surgery. I was taken to the operating room and the anesthesist used general anaesthesia. I woke up 2 hours after the surgery ended. The recovery was a bit difficult. I was allowed to go home after 2 days. And then I had to rest for a week at home.

All in all, the decision of getting a surgery done or not depends on the size of your fibroadenoma. And don't worry if you need to get a surgery done. It's a simple procedure and you'll get all the help that you ask from your doctors. God bless and keep us updated.
