Core Biopsy scheduled
Hello everyone,
I'm new here and have been reading through some of the topics and conversations but thought I'd also share my story. I'm 41 years old and went for my first mammogram. I was told before hand not to worry if I was called back (it's common especially after first mammogram). Well... I was called back for another 3D mammogram and ultrasound on President's Day.
Went with the attitude that they just wanted clearer pictures since it's my first one and I had dense breast tissue. First the mammogram... it hurt unlike the first one! It was explained to me that it was because they had to use smaller plates to look at a specific area.
Ultrasound time: I was watching the screen when I saw a black spot appear and the technician started measuring it. At this point I knew something was found without being told. In fact something was found in both breasts!
I had to wait for the doctor to come in. There was also a resident. It was explained to me that since it was in both breasts, they thought they could be Fibroadenomas but they couldn't rule out malignancy either. They recommended a bilateral biopsy.
I went to the Breast surgeon appointment the next day to discuss results and schedule biopsy. She explained that one had a blood supply to it and it can grow. I guess the edges for both were not clear or smooth (not sure of exact wording). She said there is no height to them or shadowing. There was nothing said about them possibly being Fibroadenomas.
BIRAD for both is 4B
From all I read in the forum, I'm confused on what it is about them that is questionable. So I asked for the reports, which I received today. Tell me what you think!?!
Left breast ultrasound: Targeted ultrasound examination of the left breast was performed for evaluation of the mammographic mass. At the 3:00 position 4 cm from the nipple lobulated hypoechoic mass measured 0.7 cm x 1.0 cm x 0.7 cm and corresponded to the mammographic mass. This mass is a solid lesion. Malignancy is not excluded, and biopsy is recommended.
Right breast ultrasound: Targeted ultrasound examination of the right breast was performed for evaluation of the mammographic mass. At the 11:00 position areolar margin hypoechoic round mass measured 1.1 cm x 1.1 cm x 0.8 cm and corresponded to the mammographic abnormality. This mass is a solid lesion. Malignancy is not excluded, and biopsy is recommended.
I also have a swollen area at my Supraclavicular area that I'm getting a CT scan on. I've had this since at least 2009 and it was check by an ENT. The ENT sent me for imaging on it in 2009 and said it was fine. It was since gotten longer but it was never checked again.
Is it even possible to have a problem for that many years without additional symptoms popping up? I don't have discharge or rash. I don't think have any pain outside of what I think is normal. Please let me know your thought or experiences is it sounds similar.

The descriptions are incomplete, lacking specific features (that are either present or absent) that would lead someone to a better conclusion. Scanning of the lymph nodes under the arms should always be performed if a solid mass is found in the breasts. Did they scan there?
That being said it is fairly routine and more than reasonable to biopsy any solid mass found in the breast especially if there are no prior studies to determine if they are new, old, getting bigger, getting smaller. There are some cancers that mimic benign lumps and vice versa so I cannot disagree with their recommendations. The good news is whatever they are, they are fairly small.
Did they scan the area of your clavicle? Did the prior CT say it was a node? Do they know its been there for almost 10 years without a cause declaring itself? Let us know what the biopsy shows.

They did not scan under my armpits.
I'm going for the CT scan in the Supraclavicle area on my shoulder tomorrow. I did tell the Physician assist that it was checked in 2009. We couldn't find the imaging that was done on it, just the doctor's report saying that it wasn't worrisome to him.
I won't know the results of anything until my next appointment on March 13th.
