Am I the only one out there after now almost 4 years who still has chronic swelling and pain in my belly after Diep? My weight is less than surgery because any additional weight just puts more pressure and causes pain. I try yoga daily. I don’t have hernias related to surgery so the noncontrast ct scan of 2 years ago said. I only had stage 1 & 2. Also have PMPS, so maybe something up with my body. I weigh 110. Pretty good core strength PT said but have to wear binder or spanx because of serious swelling and pain of about 4/10 daily from swelling and pressure. I have good results aesthetically but the consequences of pain and swelling have altered my life significantly

I just read this from another person and I wish I could remember where I read it!! I’m so sorry you are going through this and I wish your PS could help. Have you tried getting another opinion? If I can find the other person, I will send you her username so maybe you can help each other out.

Hang in there and big hugs

did your PS perform plication during stage 2? If not that may be part of the issue where your abdominal muscle allows too much expansion. If he did perform it it’s possible he got it too tight but I would think at 4 years out it should’ve stretched a little. 2 other things to consider are lymph drainage and going to the bathroom everyday. Your lymph fluid may not be draining properly and you may need the help of a PT trained in lymph issues. If you don’t go to the bathroom everyday or at least every other day it can be very uncomfortable and swell. Also, if you find you’re fine in the morning whenever you get up but swollen but late afternoon/evening thats actually somewhat normal as when we’re upright gravity takes it’s toll. When we lay down it’s easier for all fluids to do their thing

There is a facebook group for these issues called "TRAM/DIEP FLAP- Complications And Hope". Dr Ron Israeli in NY is the main doctor I hear about fixing chronic swelling after DIEP.
