Hello all! I am new here, and frankly worried out of my mind. I'm 30 years old. About two months ago, I thought I felt a mass during a self check but only rubbed across it and ended up chalking it up to a symmetrical lump. About a month later, during another self check, I noticed the lump again only this time it was more noticeable so I explored a bit more and noticed that I could actually grab the lump with my fingers. It is located beneath my areola, just under my nipple on my right breast. I promptly scheduled an appointment with my PCP who referred me for an ultrasound. Two and a half weeks later, a few days ago, I had the US. Within 45 minutes of leaving from the imaging center, I received a call from the doctors office who told me the lump was suspicious and I would need to have a biopsy. I am still waiting for the breast surgeon to call and schedule the biopsy. In the meantime, my test results from radiology became available to me today so I was able to see exactly what they said, which is as follows:

IMPRESSION:

0.6 CM HYPOECHOIC MASS AT 6 O'CLOCK IN THE RIGHT BREAST IN THE
PALPABLE AREA OF CONCERN, FOR WHICH FURTHER EVALUATION WITH
ULTRASOUND-GUIDED CORE NEEDLE BIOPSY IS RECOMMENDED.

BI-RADS CATEGORY: 4

FINAL ASSESSMENT: Suspicious

"BIOPSY RECOMMENDED"

FINDINGS:
Targeted sonographic evaluation of the right breast in the
patient's palpable area of concern demonstrates a 0.6 x 0.3 x 0.4
cm hypoechoic mass at 6 o'clock in the retroareolar right breast.
It demonstrates slightly irregular margins on a few of the
images. Given that this is newly palpable, further evaluation
with ultrasound-guided core needle biopsy is recommended.

I have never been through anything like this, and my anxiety is through the roof. What does a BIRADS 4 indicate? Can someone help me interpret the report a little better? Could my lump, although small, be cancerous? I guess I'm just here to have someone to lean on and to have others share their experiences with me, no matter the outcome. While my husband is amazing, he just doesn't get it. My doctor said because I'm young and have no history of breast cancer in my immediate family, she thinks there is a better chance it is something benign, but that there's a possibility it is cancer. My husband, bless him, called that a relief. I don't feel relieved at all.

Sorry this is so long, thanks for sticking with me if you've made it this far!

Only about 20% of Bi-Rads 4 biopsies are positive for cancer. Most will turn out benign. Often an otherwise benign-appearing spot may just not look quite "textbook" on imaging (slightly irregular margins on a few of the images) so they biopsy it out of prudence. That, and the fact that this is newly palpable to you. Try not to get too far ahead of yourself. Chances are you are fine.

Thank you so much for responding Melissa! That is so reassuring to know. I did a little googling, and only found a lot of different answers so I thought the people here might know a more definite answer to some of my questions!

I'm in the same boat. I'm 36 same type of lump. I'm breastfeeding my 12 week old son. Went to ultrasound but birads is 0. Need further evaluation. Recommended mammogram. I'm scared too! O cam also feel lump, can grab with fingers. Feels irregular too. Have mo other info but have my mammogram tomorrow. I just know it's obviously a concerning solid mass.

Crsonic, I'm so sorry you're going through this too! It is such a scary thing to experience. I still haven't heard from the breast surgeon to schedule my biopsy, I'm hoping I will hear from them by tomorrow because this waiting is getting to me. Please keep me updated on what you find out!
