Hello everyone,

My mom was recently diagnosed with breast cancer. Her tumor was 6mm, along with 1 sentinel node, and 2 other auxiliary nodes. Strangely, they diagosed her with stage 2 breast cancer, but based on everything i have read (and I've read alot), it sounds more like stage 3 to me. Do you agree?

She's EP+ (99%), PR+, HER2-. She had a Mamaprint recently completed and we're still waiting for a hard copy of her results. Her oncologist called to say it came back that she was high-risk! And was very surprised.

Initially they told us that she likely wouldn't receive any extra benefit from chemotherapy, since she's so strongly estrogen positive. But now with the high-risk result from the Mamaprint, they're advising her to do chemo.

Did anyone here chose to not do chemo? I haven't seen many studies looking at the use of radiation in these cases, rather than chemotherapy. She'll for sure be doing endocrine therapy. Just curious what others' experiences have been.

Thanks ladies

xoxo

sorry to hear about your mom. Register at the NCCN website and read the professionals' version of the breast cancer treatment guidelines. Read the footnotes too.

Please enlighten yourself with the various treatments. Based on different breast cancer characteristics and What kind of surgery she has, will ultimately lead your mom towards what kind of post surgical treatment is right for her. Wishing her the best. You sound like a wonderful advocate for your mom

Hey, I'm intrigued as to why chemo wouldn't be recommended just because she's strongly ER+?

Chemo tends to be recommended if you've had node involvement to prevent the risk of rogue microscopic cells spreading to other parts of the body. It's used as an insurance policy. I had 2 nodes involved and was recommended it and I'm 90% ER+. Plus I was so scared not to do it, as I was dx quite young at 34.

I was given hormone therapy though which is very effective in highly ER+ people.
