Worried about Paget's and other Breast malignancies

My left nipple looks a little different than my right nipple...and it has a darker ring around it...plus there is a different textured dark patch (about 1 inch) right above my nipple (same color)...along with a new pimple. i'm afraid that it's Pagets....along with generalized itching (not on my nipple or areola)...nothing is really crusty or hard...just different.

Do i go to my gyno about this or should i go to a dermatologist?

I would suggest seeing a dermatologist since only a biopsy can detect Pagets. I started with my gyno and after a clean mammogram asked for referral to a derm. While the extra time it took to reach diagnosis didn't make any difference in stage or treatment I do wish I would have started the process there and not waited so long for over the counter creams to work/mammogram etc. Derm will likely want to start with a stronger steroid cream but if you have no change with an over the counter brand you could possibly push to have one done sooner for piece of mind. Stay in touch with us, this is a great place to come for questions and concerns!

I'm having a similar experience - but no itching. Did you get results?

Hey All, I went to the Dermatologist and I ended up seeing a PA instead of an MD...which kind of ticked me off so i will be getting a second opinion. The PA said it looked like something had irritated my areola and said it could have been anything (bra, scratch, etc)...She advised me to use Amlactin (an exfoliating moisturizing lotion) for about a month (didn't even prescribe me medicine, felt like i didn't need it) and then follow up. I must say...the lotion has been helping but VERY SLOWLY. If it gets worse, i'm going to look for another Dermo w here i can go to see the actual MD.

I hope all is well with everyone!

    personal note

I have been to 2 different derm offices where I live and was on staff. In all the visits to both places I never saw the dermatologist, just the PAs.

Maybe I chose the wrong specialty. :-\
