My biopsy wasn't what I hoped for

Hi everybody.

Had my Category 4 breast biopsy today. The surgeon today me, he really didn't feel it was a true Category 4, more of a Category 3 but we just really are being cautious. (Whew, that felt great), as well as his technician, she said, 'Don't worry, you don't have cancer', so before it began, I had my deceased dad's rosary beads clutched in my hands and I felt a bit hopeful. Now let's get it done...first needle went in, nothing happened. THe Dr. said, "Gee, I thought this would collapse for sure, let's go for needle # 2, we'll get it". So, needle #2 goes in, again, nothing happens. He then explains that there must be some very thick fluid in my breast or some solidity because he's not getting any fluid. He explains he's going to use something like a vacuum to go in and get some tissue which will then be sent to the pathologist for his results. Because I get pain injections monthly for my Fibro, I can only say it was a bit uncomfortable however I'm really used to injections so it was nothing I'm not used to feeling. And he really pushed and pushed to get that tissue out and he did, FINALLY!! At last we were finished. It took over an hour. Everyone was really great, we actually talked about the sunshine and flowers beginning to bloom, I held back my tears! As he was completing paperwork, I asked him honestly what his thoughts were and he said his thoughts were it is benign but of course we must wait for the pathologist report. I asked why we just can't go in and remove it anyway? He said we really don't do that for a cyst, and that would come further down the road if we found it was more than just the cyst.

So, that's it! Right now I'm not in pain because he used a lot of the numbing agent, but I am very bruised. Guess I do the waiting game now and see. Don't know how I really feel. I had a gut feeling it would not collapse, I just knew that going in. He mentioned that word, is it Fibrodenema? That he thought it was that? Is that an okay thing? Sorry for all the questions.

Thanks again everybody, you've been better than great!!

Patty

I'm so sorry it was such a tough biopsy! It sounds like yours took even longer than my MRI biopsy.

Keep us posted on your results - prayers for benign findings!

Fibroendenomas are common and completely B9.

Thanks maggs3! Luckily the nausea was much better the day after my surgery.

I'm still not so patiently waiting on biopsy results...the worst part!

Gee, I hope I don't have a long wait. I can barely focus at work today. I'm hanging onto the doctor's words, I feel it's benign, that's all I can do, right? But if it's not, I will put one foot in front of the other and focus on each day as it comes. Tomorrow my first born, (my son) turns 35, i am remembering that day with a smile and focusing on that!! I called my Doctor's office and they told me the Pathologist will make the call, really? How cold is that? So, someone I've never met will call and give me the results and say good-bye, have a nice day? I regret not giving them my PCP's number to call, at least I know everyone there so well, but the Pathologist's office? Sounds rather impersonal to me, yet isn't it all? I'm blabbering, so sorry!!!!

Maggs, at the facility I use, the receptionist/scheduler is the one who phones with pathology report.Β  We don't even rate a medical professional.

I hope you don't have a long wait. I had to wait 12 days and they wouldn't give me the results on the phone. I had to drive to the hospital about 2 hours away for an app't with a nurse practioner.

Oh I'm sure I will have the secretary as well, they just said that office will call. You know, once the doctor was finished, and he was extremely nice, he just said well Pat, have a very good day, I'm off to see someone else now, take good care, Bye! And in a blink, he was gone. I'm sure they see so many in a day and see so much that to make it personal would be so hard for them to do, but gee, you just did something so invasive, well to me it was, tell me I'm going to be okay, or pat me on the head or do something!! But, then that would make their job so incredibly hard, wouldn't it? At least there is a site like this where we can make each other feel important and not just a number and that we are someone who matters!!! I am praying for all of us now in my daily prayers and I feel great doing so!!!

Thanks so much for asking....nothing yet! I am going insane. The Radiologist said 4 days which will bring it to tomorrow, but I'm thinking if it wasn't anything, they would know by now., right? I'm at work and can't focus, my stomach is so anxious and I"m thinking dark thoughts at this point. Ugh, this is crazy!!! I will let you know ASAP!! Maybe I'll call my Primary Care to see if he can get any news for me!!

Have a great day!! Are you waiting results as well??

    Sheila!

Do you mean the biopsy results from Tuesday? I can go get them? Oh my gosh...whoa!! I think I will, I just called the hospital and my Pathology results are not back yet, and she doesn't suspect them back until Wednesday, so I think I will go and get my report from Tuesday's biopsy. Thank you but oh I'm so scared!! Going to call now and get them after work. Won't read it until I get home...

Thank you so much for the information....

    Hi Sheila!

I got my Biopsy report from the Radiologist and all it says is what he did that day, the two needle aspiration and then the vacuum. The word, "cancer" is never mentioned under suspicion or anything else. He referred to it as a Complex Cyst and at the very end he ended it with, "waiting for pathology report" and that was it. So, I will sit and wait for that pathology report and until then try to take my mind off of it. I see my PCP today and will discuss things with him, due to the stress my Fibro is way out of control and the pain is so intense so I need to focus on that for a bit, I need a long vacation!!

    Thank you so much again!

    Hi everyone!

Well, I finally received my Pathologist report and I am happy to say that it was benign. I have Fibroedenema., which I actually thought I was too old for, but I'll accept it. They are suggesting I keep the remaining part of the cyst and just following through with the ultrasound and mammogram in June, but I would rather take it out and be done with it. What are your thoughts? I've had a lump there in my 20's which had to be removed, same breast, now this, to me I'd feel better to have whatever is there taken out and for now relax this it's gone.

Anyway, thank you all so much for making these past two weeks so informative for me, I could NOT have gone through this without you all!

Patty I am praying for you all in my daily prayers!!!

Thanks so much Sheila! I go tomorrow to see my Doctor because the Radiologist left some there and I just can't understand why it can't be removed even though it's B9. It hurts, it's been there since 2015 and it grew!! Let's get it out!! I had a lump in that same breast when I was 23, they are calling this one Fibroendonoma. So, we'll see what she tells me. Thanks for your hugs!! In the brief time here, I connected to so many...you share so many emotions here, it helped through the waiting process so much!!!

    Sending hugs to everyone here!!!!!

Just when I thought I was safe!!

My Ob-Gyn went over my biopsy results today and guess there was some concern but thank goodness it was B9 with a name! Then she went on to say evidently my pap from last March was somehow never reviewed, never reached her, so she just reviewed ittoday and it showed an abnormality from last year that was never addressed!! She was upset but not too worried. Had another one today and now face yet another 3-4 week wait on that which may result in yet another biopsy! I give up!!! Calgon you know what to do!!!!

hang in there Maggs...within a month of completing chemo, lumpectomy, rads and on to tamoxifen, I started bleeding...determined to be fibroids after D&C 3 months later..whew. Within a month of that I started getting blood in my bowel movements...ulcerative colitis and plenty of polyp remivals over the last 3 years...all waiting for results. After getting control of that my mammogram last week showed focal asymmetry so I’m on to more diagnostics and waiting. It sucks totally but we can do this! We have to because we’re worth it! Keep us posted please! Hugs

Oh my goodness and here I was complaining! You need hugs too! I just cannot believe this test result sat somewhere for one year with no one seeing it, that just infuriates me. Hopefully, whatever this is it will be treated in time. We women are strong aren't we? God gives us the strength to get through even when we think we can't!

You hand in there and I will keep you in my prayers!!!
