Arimidex x 6 years osteoporosis low back now.
After 6 years on Arimidex I now have osteoporosis low back. MO concerned to keep me on it and not take something to protect bones. I tried tamoxifen x 2, I can’t handle it. Had a hyster years ago. Tried evista recently and began to have severe heart palpitations. I need to go back to Arimidex but worried about the bones. Anyone here with Prolia/Arimidex options? I tried Fareston years ago which was great, but she said it’s not used much here in the US? I can’t imagine why, it was perfect

I have osteoporosis also and was on Tam for 2.5 yrs. Never on an ai, but had the osteo DX when I was first DX'd with BC. Also had a hyst/ooph. Just curious, why are you taking Arimidex past 5 yrs? My MO has suggested Prolia, but I need to get extensive dental work done before I can do that. Hopefully, within the year I can start the injections. Just DX'd with cataracts, too. Maybe an SE of Tam....my MO mentioned an oral drug for Osteo, but said it can cause esophageal issues. I am on calcium and Vit D supplements, but still has gotten worse. Maybe you can get another opinion or referral to an Endocrinologist.

keepthefaith, I tried Tamoxifen 2x, I just couldn’t handle the SE. so I went to Fareston which was great but very expensive and it’s not used here in US as much, not sure why. So alternative was A1, in which threw me into osteoporosis low back. She wants me to do something for the bones or change meds. So I went to evista, after almost a month I’m realizing why my heart is jumping through my chest and it was the evista. So now I have an appt with a rheumatologist in April to discuss Prolia. I’m not even sure if that’s who you see for this? How’s is the Prolia working for you? I thought if your on tamox that it strengthens the bones? I don’t think I will take osteo or any iV supplement, I don’t do meds well.. I’m praying that Prolia works and does not create any issues.

I am not on Prolia at this point. I have to get some dental work done first, as it has a risk of causing jaw problems if you have dental work done. I was hoping Tam would help also, but in my case, it didn't. I'm not sure what specialist you go to either. A friend of mine who has osteo, goes to an endocrinologist...I hope you find a solution.
