I asked the surgeon about this and he said I didn't need it. But the Radiation Oncologist said I did and he would send a referral to OT for me. I know I need one, if only for flying.

I have one for flying but haven't needed it (haven't flown anywhere... I hate planes so I try to avoid it).

Honestly the OT assessment is good, they should measure your arm and keep an eye on you. I was monitored for over a year before developing lymphedema in my chest. We spent so much time on keeping the arm safe, it's kind of funny it popped up elsewhere. I had a suspicious mole removed from the side of my radiated breast and apparently my lymph nodes couldn't handle it. But it was nice to have someone to call when I noticed fluid (oh no!). Do know that a preventative sleeve (and gauntlet) for flying appears to be controversial. My OT said there is no harm in wearing one (without diagnosed lymphedema) as long as it fits correctly.

    gb2115,

Thanks, I will follow through with the OT assessment, sounds good to me.
