edited February 2018 in Waiting for Test Results

I have been waiting for my appointment with the breast surgeon since Nov 30. Finally, it's tomorrow.

Friday night I accidentally swallowed a piece of broken tooth filled with metal fillings. I have been upset all weekend about this because I know they are probably going to call for an MRI. I have googled this and I don't like the idea of what I'm reading. Am I being neurotic?

This is all so upsetting. The closer this appointment has gotten, the less I have slept. Now I feel like I'm putting myself in more danger by getting the MRI. Help.

I’m going to guess that swallowing a filling is no different than having them in your mouth, but I’m not an expert. Good luck at your appointment

since the MRI only looks at your breasts I don't think you have to worry much. The filling will be traveling through your GI tract and will likely be "out" by tomorrow, if it's not already. And fillings aren't attracted to magnets anyway. I know it's upsetting, but I truly don't think this is gonna be a problem.

They do MRIs with fillings in your mouth, so I wouldn't worry about it being in your gi tract. But you can let them know before your test if you're worried, but this is truly not something to lose sleep over. If dental fillings prevented people from getting MRIs, no one would get one. Plus it should pass through you within a couple days anyway.
