48 year old husband with lump now about 3 cms
As most males, its not been easy to get him to see a doctor. I believe its 10 months to a year since we first noticed the lump. I feel its grown now. Always been quite hard. Feels regularish and not movable as such. No pain as such. Its at 4 clock position of his left breast so towards the centre of the chest and not on outer chest.
He's finally got an appointment with his primary physician and its tomorrow. The doctor is an Internal Medicine specialist. I am sure hubby will need a referral to a specialist.
Hubby has not one single risk factor that are risk factors for male breast cancer - so no cancers or breast cancers in family, no estrogen therapy and all those lists of other conditions. Yet I worry - worry very much.
From my knowledge, he must have an ultrasound done as my research from when I had a breast lump tells me that ultrasounds are in many ways better than mammogram, especially when there is already 'something' there.
What are other questions to ask? and what must I insist? I worry if doc just sends him home saying its okay and without properly checking this out - it may be another year before he sees a doctor and if there is/was anything that could be terrible. I want to ensure all that needs to rule out cancer is done.

Hi MrsAziz, I think you are well prepared for this appointment and have answered your own question: in the unlikely case your husband is sent home without proper testing done you should tell the doc you want tests done to rule out breast cancer.
Good luck and I hope it turns out to be something trivial

Definitely go with him to assure they schedule imaging of some sort. Do not let them feel it and say, “it feels like a ___" and not pursue it. My guess is that they will order imaging; especially since it has grown. Let us know how it hoes

Welcome to the forum MrsAziz, people here are very helpful and no question is a silly question. I'm a man who has been treated for breast cancer and my diagnosis was by ultrasound, the best way to check men. Once they found a suspicious image, they performed a needle biopsy. Keep this in mind when talking with your doctor and persuade your husband to insist on an ultrasound. One year is too long to wait for another check. Let us know how you go.

So we went to the doc and he barely gave us 3 minutes..but I guess its not his job to look into breast lumps further. He felt the lump and does believe its hard too
So gave an order for an ultrasound.. the earliest appointment I got is a week away. I will try call again and see if they can put him on a wait list earlier.
He's been mentioning chest pain and it could be stress and anxiety (unrelated to lump) but I can't help worry if its related to lump physiologically. -
I don't believe the chest pain is related to the lump, since this would be unusual. It's easy to say, but best get your husband to stay calm for the next wee.
-
Calm - my husband is super calm. Remember he delayed getting this checked out for a year. Its me who is a mess. Just made about 10 calls and trying to get an appointment else where for tomorrow.

so we did get an appointment and went for it.
Reports on Monday, but the technician said it looked okay.
She found 4 lumps, 2 of them were about 5 cm.in one breast. she thinks they are fat deposits (husband athletic to slim body).
Waiting for Monday. I would think multiple lumps is usually a good sign right?
-
Thanks for reporting back. Generally, multiple lumps is a good sign, but the best sign is the technician's comment. They know cancer when they see it. When I had my ultrasound, the technician's eyes popped out of her head and she rushed off to get a doctor. At least you didn't have that experience!
I believe you can rest easy, and Monday's not that far away..
