Is Oncotype Testing routinely done?

Are most people having Oncotype testing done on their tumor? It is genetic testing (on the tumor, not blood test) to help "score" the chance of recurrence & possible response to Chemo. Seems it is relatively new & not all Oncologists use it, but some swear by it.

    Hi

My BS said there are several genome assays that can be done on tumors. When there is no lymph node involvement the most common test is the Oncotype Dx. When there are positive lymph nodes the Mammaprint is typically ordered. Other tests that can be done are Blueprint, EndoPredict, PAM50(Prosigna), and Breast Cancer index. I’m not sure why one is selected over another but these are the ones I’ve been reading about.

I think that the Oncotype gives valuable information to use in making your treatment decisions. BCI is useful after you have taken 5 years of antihormonals to see if you should continue or not.

Meow, my younger oncologist ordered the BCI right after diagnosis just because I had mentioned it after reading about it here. I didn’t ask him to. When the result came back high risk (after a low Oncotype), I spiraled right back into anxiety and depression. When I changed oncologists, my much older oncologist just shrugged his shoulders when I mentioned the BCI. Fortunately, my results included high benefit from Antihormonals, so I guess I will stay on them as long as possible. I was 100% ER positive.

Oncotype DX is done if one has up to 3 positive nodes. I had 2 positive nodes, got the Oncotype test, and due to a low score of 14, avoided chemo.
