    Hi Everyone!

I met with my BS yesterday to discuss my biopsy for cluster calcifications in my left breast. After a very thorough exam he found a lump on my right breast that will require an ultrasound before my biopsy.

My main concern is he said he will schedule a stereotactic biopsy for the calcifications, however, since I have small and extremely dense breast that may not work and i may require a surgical biopsy (of course not the same day...more waiting again) Has anyone experienced this? Can i just request a surgical? Or just wait and see especially with new finding of the lump on the right breast.

    Thank you so much 😊

    Hi SMITCHICK,

Sorry to hear a lump was found. I have very dense breasts and a 5mm tumor and the doctor was able to do a stereotactic biopsy. It took 2 tries though because it was so small. If your lucky, the lump will show up on ultrasound and give the doctor more information.

In cases like this I would always look at the area of calcifications with US first if I thought a stereo would be difficult. Not often but every now and then I could see either the calcifications themselves or something related to them that would allow them to be biopsied with US. Couldn't hurt to ask.

I have very dense breasts as well. I was able to have a stereo biopsy in December. I ended up having an excisional, but only because ADH was found.
