Vaginal gush bleeding in menopause
It's the week hours of the morning and this post-menopausal woman is freaking out! Guess I wasn't peeing my pants but bleeding! It's painful and so far I have lost about 1/8 cup of maroon liquid. My FSH puts me at menopausal. My last period was during chemo in 2014. Abdominal cramping all week. Was on Femara....but switched to Tamoxifen two days ago. No relationship with PCP and no OB or Onco-changed medical coverage. What the *&^ is this and who do I call?
Help!

I’m not sure I can help you but I’ll let you know what happened to me. I’m 52 now. 2014 chemo stopped my periods completely. August 2017 had painful cramping then very heavy bleeding. 5 days then it stopped. The next month another period but very light. The next month only spotting. Now nothing. I guess it was my body’s last hurrah! I don’t know anything about FSH. If you are still concerned in the morning, be sure and call your doctor. I hope all is well

I realize now I didn’t really answer your question. Maybe someone else can chime in about who to call

Sounds similar to issues I had. I had surgical menopause at 55 but boy the year leading up to that was something. Very irregular but some days I thought I was bleeding to death. I was on Tamoxifen at the time. I do think that the fact that the uterine lining is shedding is a good thing Re: endometrial cancer. I'd probably get an appointment with a gyn, even if it is several months in the future and they could do a TVU or something.

Glad to have those days behind me..... ditched the uterus and ovaries before starting Tamoxifen last year.
Jumpship, go to a Planned Parenthood, if nothing else is available. They can screen for Cancer and check for a thickened uterine lining. My mom had cycles at 75 years old, probably due to her thyroid issues. She ended up getting a D&C.

Thanks all. Saw pcp and met new ob this week. Their answer 'We don't know." Not good enough for me
-
Gyn needs to do an ultrasound of the uterus, I would think
-
Ultrasound was 'unremarkable.' For me gushing was definitely remarkable
-
Guess what? Another incident! Now not only am I wondering if I have cancer in the other female organs but if femara isn't the thing I should be taking. Thoughts?

Same thing happened to me. My gyn sent me for a hystersonogram which showed several polyps (large) and thickened lining that developed with 4 weeks of starting tamoxifen. Scared the heck out of me too. Eventually lead to a d&c, thankfully everything was benign. When I asked if tamox could cause this so quickly she said ‘oh yeah!’. I haven’t had any problems since and my lining remains normal. Push for further imaging until you have answers. ‘Unremarkable’ accompanied by further bleeding isn’t good enough in my books...something is causing it, they need to find out why. Keep us posted please.

What is your age?

Thanks. 51. Fsh levels checked a year ago and it was determined I was in menopause. I hate surgery and I really want to keep all the 'lady' parts. Wondering if losing the ovaries and Fallopian tubes would help my worry. You can biopsy the other areas easily but painfully but you can't biopsy the ovaries without surgery. Before gush one IB said she would never do a hysterectomy and the second one preferred I kept it all by was willing to do a salpingo-oop if it eased my mind. New OB might have graduated med school last year. Maybe. Don't think she's seen too many old ladies. She still thinks the Mona Lisa works 100% of the time and is worth its non-discounted price for breast cancer survivirs

I had similar issues on tamoxifen. First surgery was ooph and d&c. Easy peasey. Still had a uterine polyp causing post meno spotting. Gyn was totally on board with complete hysterectomy. My surgery was total open hx. Still not too bad. Barely remember it. I should have done the hysterectomy years ago. Not thrilled about losing the ovaries. If you are Brca neg, the chances of ovarian cancer are very, very low.

Interesting. Chemo stopped my periods at age 50 - had been having some perimenopausal symptoms prior but was still very regular. I had lots of problems with Tamoxifen and quit. I requested hormone testing since no period for over a year and wondering about trying an AI instead. That showed FSH (menopause) but Estradiol and LH (not menopause). GYN called it menopause, regular MO never discussed it, and second opinion MO said probably perimenopausal and to NOT try an AI for fear of "waking up" my ovaries.
Meanwhile - I had an episode of horrible abdominal and groin pain one morning. Had an US two days later that showed thickened endometrium and ovarian cyst. Follow up US three months later with worse thickening and changes in cyst. GYN wanted D&C for pathology.
And then I went on vacation with plans to take care of this when I got back - and had a period! First one in 18 months! So now I don't know what the plan will be.
Long story short - maybe you're not menopausal?
