Im starting chemo treatment soon for triple negative breast cancer. Ihave no idea what to expect and hear some awful stories not sure if I should read the chemo threads. I'm concerned as I'm prone to lung infections and sinus infections due to immotile cilia. I have many pets and I keep hearing while undergoing chemo dogs cannot sleep in bed and cuddling with them is not allowed. I still have to go over everything with the nurse educator. I'm just looking for any light. Would this be compared to getting the flu are their good days and bad days. I have two kids in school who I'm sure will be bringing home some germs. I'm afraid of what a cold would do to me if I catch one.How can all this stress be good. The treatment is for 4 months.

Hi Jd, I just started last Thurs so it's early days for me. I've been tired. Yeah, sort of like the flu. It's a weird feeling. Like you're stuck in molasses and everything seems heavy and hard to do.

I have pets and haven't changed much about what I do. I think you will need to balance your own psychological and physical needs. Pets provide a lot of therapy and comfort so I hope you can find a way to make that work.

Several people on the chemo threads have kids in school and people get colds etc. I think you just stay on top of your symptoms and act quickly. I've instituted the 'hug me from behind' rule. No face to face hugs, just snuggles from the back. Everyone is handwashing lots. Wipe down door handles etc.

yes animals are incredibly healing I would be lost without them. So much harder to heal they already have gotten be through a separation I could not imagine them not near me. Thank you for this.

Spookie sleeps with me all the time. Even when I did chemo. I also adopted another dog during that time. He’s daddy’s boy.

My grandkids would visit, one had a runny nose. Sprayed Lysol everywhere. Wash hands, use a mask if you want.
