DCIS - did you have an MRI?

I was DX with DCIS grade 3, ER+/PR+. on Wednesday. I will be having a lumpectomy and radiation soon.I feel like I should be getting a MRI to see sure nothing has been missed. How many of you have gotten MRI's?

Yes, I did. It confirmed the original diagnosis and didn't reveal anything else. It was very reassuring, despite the discomfort of the procedure.

I did, and it showed non-detected IDC in the other breast. You may want to ask your doc about contralateral MRI.

I did. It wasn't recommended by my BS or the breast cancer team at my hospital who assess new cases, despite my dense breasts. They said that MRI isn't particularly good at picking up the micro-calcifications associated with DCIS but were happy to order one to provide peace of mind. In my case, It showed absolutely nothing that we didn't already know from mammography.

Yes, my surgeon wanted me to have the MRI before surgery so that he had the clearest possible picture of what was going on before operating.

While my mammo had shown two areas of calcifications that were biopsied and found to be DCIS, the MRI showed that my breast was pretty much full of DCIS - a lot more than what had been seen on the mammo. I had been struggling with the lumpectomy vs. mastectomy decision (I really didn’t want a MX) and the MRI convinced me that a MX was necessary.

Once the surgery was done, it turned out that the MRI had been correct in how much DCIS I had.

I also had an MRI. It confirmed that the DCIS was diffuse throughout my breast at correlated well with the original mammogram. I also have dense breasts.

yes I did and they found IDC in the other breast.
