I am so nervous about not taking hormone therapy. I know it has awful SE's but my chance of getting BC again is high MO said. I feel like I'm just a ticking time bomb to get BC again. I am usually not a worrier but this has got me.

Jen, you haven't given any specifics about your cancer, but I had a previous PE, so can't take tamoxifen or Evista, but the AIs are allowed because they do not carry the blood clotting risk. If you are not menopausal an AI would be used in combo with ovarian suppression. Why are they telling you this is not an option?

i Melissa thanks for replying. I have DCIS, grade 3, ER+/PR+. I am not menopausal. I will have to check on that. They just told me hormone therapy is not an option.

Agree with others. Ovarian suppression plus an aromatase inhibitor

agree with ovarian suppression and AI therapy or oophorectomy & AI therapy. At 43 ialso had bilateral PEs and a DVT on tamoxifen. I opted for oophorectomy and AI (femara). I will say I have far fewer and less intense SEs now compared to when I was on tamoxifen. Glad I did it.

Jen - taking a drug like Tamoxifen is a crapshoot. I took it for 5 years. I had a blood clot at 16 so I was concerned about taking it. My MO said since I had 2 children ivelujc be okay. At one time I thought I had DVT while taking it to the point I had it checked out at the cancer center. It wasn’t DVT thankfully.

My MO took me off if it at the 5 year mark. She said no need to tempt fate plus I had an early stage BC that was non-aggressive. I wanted to keep taking it as an added insurance policy.

Good luck with whatever you decide.

    Diane
