Hello everyone I am 44 years old and recently diagnosed with triple negative invasive ducal breast cancer. Stage 2 grade 3. I have two children and have recently separated. I will be under going chemotherapy for 16 weeks- andriamycin, taxol, cytoxin every two weeks 4x in one day. Taxol every 4 weeks. I will then get a lumpectomy or mastectomy pending braca test. My pet scan is scheduled this coming Friday. There has been growth from my original sonogram to the sonogram at biopsy within a 5 day period. There was growth from the biopsy to the mri another 5 day period. My onocologist said the growth is most likely in relation to the irritation of the biopsy. Has anyone heard this before. I have been trying to get my pet scan pushed up sooner and it sure is not easy. How long does someone wait till treatment of chemo after diagnosis.

Hi, sorry you're here but hopefully you can get some good info here.
I just posted this link in another thread, about optimal times for treatment. https://respectfulinsolence.com/2016/01/12/breast-...

The tumors can swell from biopsy and also ultrasound size can vary from what the surgeon finally finds. Mine turned out smaller after the lumpectomy than the mammo & u/s indicated so I got staged down from 2 to 1...

fwiw, my brca testing is not going to be done till later. My MO said it wouldn't change my treatment now. If it comes back positive, I can go back to do a bmx.

    Have you had Oncotype testing?

hugs. These early days are so tough.

Oncotype is for ER+ tumors to see if there is benefit from chemo. It is not used on ER- tumors since they most likely will benefit from chemo.

Jd720, there is a triple negative thread that you may want to check out. To answer your question, timing varies but it sounds like you should be receiving chemo as soon as the results from the PET scan come back. While TNBC can be aggressive, it usually responds well to chemo and after five years it is less likely to recur than ER+. I wish you well and keep us posted. This limbo period really can be the worst part. I should have asked for anti anxiety meds sooner than I did and while I used them sparingly it was nice to know I had them.

Thank you Peregrinelady. Yes anxious to start the chemo. Someone else had recommended an anti anxiety I am going to ask about this. It has to be much healthier then anxiety overload. A good thing though Anxiety can fuel pro activity. I can think of any heavier kind of limbo right now. My sister forwarded me this site I’m very glad she did. Wishing you and everyone here the best. Godspeed!!!
