"Worrisome" body scan

Options

I didn't think I'd be back here after 10 years... I've had this pain in my side since the beginning of January. I already had an appointment to see my new oncologist at the end of January (my other oncologist retired a couple of years ago). I told her about the rib pain and also that I'm not a worrier, and I don't run to the doctor every time I get an ache or a pain, but that I was concerned about this.

She listened to me and suggested we start with blood work, a chest x-ray and a full body scan. The blood work came back with my usual high red count and a few other highs that seem to be my "normal". However she called me the evening of the body scan and said she saw some "worrisome" results on my 4th and 5th ribs. She ordered a CT scan which I will have this coming Friday. She said that depending on the results, she may want to do a bone biopsy.

I'm moderately anxious - more about how will I tell my sister and my dad if the cancer is back. Premature - I know, but you all know how it is...

Praying it comes back benign. If it does not, then just be truthful with your relatives. Also understand that if it is an isolated bone metastasis, you'll find many examples here of women who've been living with them for 10 years or more.

Please keep us posted. Sorry you are dealing with this.

Sunshine, remember they are always extra cautious with us given our history. I totally understand how we spin after getting told they have any concerns but often they are just that and need surveillance. And even if there is something going on, there are *many* positive success stories as KBee says.

I just went thru a recurrence scare myself, some of the hardest past 3 weeks of my life as I have a small child, and I too thought everyday about how I would tell my elderly parents this news. It is part of the things we deal with as survivors. It's not just about ourselves but those who love us and who we love. Remember, you cannot caretake others though and let them lift you up if they need to. Wishing you good results and peace of mind soon.

Great news! I had my CT scan this am and just heard back from my oncologist. She looked at the scans and asked about my rib pain. I told her it was getting better, and not really interfering with my daily activities. She feels like the scans revealed some sclerosis and what she was seeing was not related to any disease. She recommends that we follow up with another CT in six months and that I see her again then, but to call her if my rib pain gets worse. I'm so relieved!
